Wednesday, May 7, 2008:
Email: 1) WWE got a 3.68 television rating for ECW on Sci-Fi.
Results for Driven, May 7, 2008:
“Gary Michael Cappeetta here, alongside Mike Johnson, welcoming you to Driven! We will hear from Adam Pearce tonight on why he attacked Paul Burchill, along with a relaxed-rules tag match featuring Eddie Kingston and Roderick Strong against the Exception To The Rule’s Dan Maff and Sonny Siaki, a #1 Tag Team Title contender’s match, and Chris Hero will defend his World Title against Austin Aries! But first—hey, that’s Arik Cannon! He’s coming to the ring!”
1st segment—Arik Cannon gets in the ring and grabs a microphone.
“Bryan Danielson! You stuck your nose in my business last week, and I want payback! Get your ass out here now!”
Danielson saunters down, gets in the ring and gets in Cannon’s face, saying nothing. Cannon shows no fear, but when Danielson slaps him hard, Cannon staggers back. Danielson pounces and works over the kid with stiff kicks and chops. Cannon tries to fight back, and proves peskier then Danielson expects, but the Dragon is able to subdue Cannon with the MMA elbows for a knockout victory. Post-match, Danielson slaps on the Cattle Mutilation until referees pry him off. Danielson scoops up his ROH World Tag Title belt and makes a motion across his waist, saying “The World is next!” *** Segment rating: 75%
2nd segment—Paul Burchill vs. Kaos Burchill gets back on the winning track, but he can’t claim it as his own, as Ruckus comes in for a measure of revenge against Kaos and nails the Hate Crime. After Burchill gets the pin, Ruckus waits for Kaos to get to his feet again and nails the Hate Crime again. *** Segment rating: 76%
3rd segment—Adam Pearce is backstage, sitting on a crate, all by himself, looking into the camera with a fierce, hostile glare.
“Wherever I’ve gone for the past week, I get asked the same question. They ask it online, in chat rooms and emails. Why’d you attack Paul Burchill? What did he do to you? How dare you attack a man from behind when he’s done nothing to you?” Pearce chuckles, stroking his goatee. “You all should be thanking me. This, what you see around me … what you people at home see on the screen, and what the people in the audience see around them … this is Ring Of Honor. This is hallowed ground. This is a company that lives and dies on wrestling, and wrestling alone. Now, you may not like me, you may not like the men I associate with, but you cannot deny that I am loyal to Ring Of Honor through and through; I defended it against CZW. I defended it when Homicide tried to humiliate our former commissioner, Jim Cornette. This company is my company. This company is for real wrestling. Paul Burchill is counterfeit. He is a fraud. He came in here from another company, he abused scores of our best wrestlers, and he expected a ROH Pure Title shot to be handed to him, simply because he used to wrestle for Vince McMahon. Let me make one thing perfectly clear to you, Paul Burchill; you are not welcome here. You do not belong in Ring Of Honor. Men like Bryan Danielson, or The Briscoes, or Jimmy Rave, or BJ Whitmer, these men are Ring Of Honor. You are not. You are a trespasser. You have profaned this sacred place. Your very existence is heresy in this company. What I will do to you is no less than what was done to heretics in years past; I will burn you alive.” Segment rating: 66% Notes: Pearce lost overness.
4th segment—Mike Quackenbush & Claudio Castagnoli vs. “Diamond” Joey Ryan & “Malibu” Tyler Black w/Studio 54: Mike Quackenbush’s first chance at “Diamond” Joey Ryan since running the gauntlet comes off the wheels, thanks to Larry Sweeney, who causes a distraction with the ref, allowing Ryan to deal with Claudio (“The coward wants no part of Quackenbush!” screams Cappetta) so Black can nail Quack with God’s Last Gift for the pin. **3/4 Segment rating: 70%
5th segment—Ruckus vs. Brent Albright: Ruckus looks to burn off some steam against the dangerous Brent Albright, but under-estimates Albright’s frustration over his recent losing ways. Albright stops Ruckus’ offensive onslaught with a pair of brass knuckles, but the ref sees it and signals for the DQ. Albright responds by powerbombing the ref into putty. **1/2 Segment rating: 70%
6th segment—Steve Corino comes into Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch’s office, looking very frustrated.
“Tammy, what the hell? I am one half of the Ring Of Honor World Tag Champions. I’m the #1 contender to the ROH World Title. Why am I tagging with that little nutcake Jimmy Jacobs?”
“Because Bryan Danielson wanted Arik Cannon, and Arik Cannon wanted Bryan Danielson,” she says matter-of-factly. “And next week, you’re wrestling Nigel McGuinness.”
“What?!? I have a belt to defend! What the—“
“Bryan Danielson came to me earlier and requested a match next week against BJ Whitmer. BJ agreed. I’m sorry.”
“What about—how the hell am I supposed to be a champion if I can’t defend the belt? How am I supposed to maintain my #1 contender’s status mulling around in non-championship-caliber matches?”
“I hardly think either of your matches aren’t championship caliber.”
Corino tries, but can’t find the words he’s looking for, and finally leaves in a huff. Segment rating: 72% Notes: Corino lost overness.
7th segment—Eddie Kingston & Roderick Strong vs. Dan Maff & Sonny Siaki, no disqualifications: Kingston and Strong unite in their quest for vengeance, but Strong’s leg is a bullseye that Maff and Siaki zero in on. The finish comes when Kingston tries for a top rope move on Maff, but Strong, staggering and unable to support his own weight, collapses on the ropes, crotching Kingston. A Burning Hammer later and Kingston is pinned. Siaki and Maff celebrate their victory by putting the boots to their downed opponents before they leave. **1/2 Segment rating: 73%
8th segment—The Burning River Brigade vs. “Hot Tub” Jimmy Rave & “Champagne” Kory Chavis: In a battle of two up-and-coming tag teams, both teams act like they’re fighting for their very jobs. But neither team can score a pin in the time allotted, and hit the fifteen minute mark without a decision. The crowd, impressed, chants for more time, but the teams resort to fisticuffs until officials run down and tear them apart. ***3/4 Segment rating: 75%
9th segment—Motor City Machine Guns vs. Matt Sydal & Jack Evans vs. Murderdeathkill vs. The Briscoes, elimination match for the #1 contendership:“One of these teams will face Steve Corino and Bryan Danielson, if Corino can get his partner to remember he’s a tag champion!” says Mike Johnson as the teams run through a variety of face-offs.
The first fall comes on Jack Evans as The Messiah nails a high-angle DDT for the pin, stunning the crowd. “Have we just seen MDK find Sydal’s & Evans’ number once and for all?” asks Cappetta.
The second fall has great team work and comes down to The Briscoes and the MCMG’s. The brothers once again show their dominance over their rivals and put away Chris Sabin with a springboard Doomsday Device.
The final fall looks to be going the Briscoes’ way, but the size and brutality of MDK ends up being too much once again. Jay falls victim to the Pain Thriller, and with the pinfall afterwards, MDK claim a guaranteed ROH Tag Title shot. **** Segment rating: 88%
10th segment—BJ Whitmer & Nigel McGuinness vs. Steve Corino & Jimmy Jacobs w/Lisa Marie Jacobs: Despite Whitmer and McGuinness both pursuing the same goal, their teamwork outshines Corino and Jacobs, who cannot get on the same page. Corino’s frustration reaches the boiling point when Jacobs is pre-occupied with his “wife” while he has Whitmer isolated. The delay gives Whitmer a chance to come back, and he ends up scoring the pin on Corino with the Exploder. Corino and Jacobs argue after the match; Corino walks away when Lisa Marie interjects. ***1/4 Segment rating: 84%
11th segment—Chris Hero (c) vs. Austin Aries, ROH World Title match: Aries channels his anger over his short Pure Title reign and overwhelms Hero. Hero tries to fight back, but never gets more then a minute of offense before Aries comes roaring back, an unstoppable force … until Bryan Danielson comes out and blasts Aries with a steel chair while Hero is arguing with the ref. Hero quickly pounces and nails a Hero’s Welcome for the pin, but as he stands up, Nigel McGuinness runs down and nearly takes his head off with the Jawbreaker Lariat. Nigel helps Aries clear out Danielson to end the show. ***1/2 Segment rating: 84%
Overall rating: 76%
Thursday, May 8, 2008:
Email: 1) Jimmy Rave and Kory Chavis blend as a team really well, probably due to their similar styles. 2) We got a 2.80 rating for Driven, with 1753 attending for $52590.
2% of PI was gained (total: 56%).
Friday, May 9, 2008:

Yessss, someone else updated their diary! Liking the Corino thing. And your tag division is really deep. I absolutely loved the Pearce promo. Shame he lost overness from it.. stupid game! And once again Ill say it. WWE... Will... Not... Die...! Yes, the company is ripping off their own workers gimmick.

I do as often as I can. Being married w/kids doesn't allow for the hour or so it takes to book/write a show too often.
The Corino thing's gonna get real interesting. The whole angle, with him, Hero, Danielson, Whitmer, Aries, Nigel, Sytch and a couple other surprises, is gonna be a good three months long.
Jed Shaffer ~I don't need the WWE to die. Just get within position to be raided.

Preview for Throwdown, May 10, 2008:
-Adam Pearce made it perfectly clear he wants Paul Burchill out of Ring Of Honor, simply because of where he wrestled before coming to ROH. How will Burchill respond? And is Pearce a man alone, or merely the tip of the iceberg?
-Eddie Kingston is frustrated, having been humiliated twice in as many shows by Dan Maff. He'll get a chance to work out some of his anger when he takes on Justice Pain, while Pain's partner, The Messiah, will take on another man who's seen recent embarrassment: Ruckus!
-We have word that Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch has ordered Roderick Strong to stay home and heal up before stepping in an ROH ring again. The man who caused the injury, Sonny Siaki, will be in action on Throwdown. Will Strong risk aggravating his injury, and the wrath of Commissioner Sytch, to get his hands on Siaki?
-Mike Quackenbush has demanded a match ... against "Malibu" Tyler Black, and to entice "Sweet n Sour" Larry Sweeney, he's sweetened the offer: if he wins, he gets "Diamond" Joey Ryan ... and if he loses, he leaves Ring Of Honor for 30 days! Will Sweeney accept?
-The ROH World Title situation is getting more confusing by the day. Steve Corino, the rightful #1 contender, has taken a backseat to Chris Hero's war with Nigel McGuinness. Corino's partner and co-tag champion, Bryan Danielson, is more interested in making Austin Aries' life miserable to get a title shot. And BJ Whitmer is coming after Corino, looking to use a win over Corino to springboard back into title contention. On Throwdown, these six men will collide in three separate matches: Whitmer will face Danielson, Corino will battle McGuinness, and since he was unable to defeat Aries without the assistance of Bryan Danielson, Hero will defend the ROH Title against Austin Aries, with no disqualifications!
Plus: Matt Sydal, Jack Evans, The Briscoes, "Hot Tub" Jimmy Rave, "Champagne" Kory Chavis, The Burning River Brigade, and more to be announced!
Jed Shaffer ~May be time to trim the fat on the roster, now that I have the developmental territory. Maybe a Do Or Die tournament? ...

Saturday, May 10, 2008:
Email: 1) WWE got a 4.93 television rating for Smackdown. 2) TNA got a 0.92 television rating for TNA Friday.
Results for Throwdown, May 10, 2008:
“Jimmy Bauer, with Dave Prazak, welcome you to Throwdown! We have a huge triple main event on tap this week that will hopefully clear up the ROH World Title picture, as Bryan Danielson has issued a challenge to BJ Whitmer, Nigel McGuinness is facing Steve Corino, and Chris Hero is defending the ROH Title one more time against Austin Aries with no disqualifications! Let’s go to the ring for our opening bout!”
1st segment—Paul Burchill & The Briscoes vs. Adam Pearce & The Motor City Machine Guns: Burchill answers Pearce’s charges of not belonging in Ring Of Honor by finding support in the Briscoes. Pearce brings in the Briscoes’ main rivals for a six-man war. As the MCMG’s keep the Briscoes occupied with crazy high-flying, Pearce uses a handful of tights on a roll-up to pin Burchill’s shoulders to the mat. Pearce and the MCMG’s take off quickly, with Pearce running his mouth all the way to the back about how he proved himself right. ***1/4 Segment rating: 81%
2nd segment—Eddie Kingston vs. Justice Pain: Frustrated, the King Of Diamonds takes on the always-enraged Justice Pain, one half of the #1 contenders to the ROH Tag Titles. The two trade stiff offense all over the ring, and outside as well, as the ref lets them run all over the rule book. But the ref has to abide by the rules when Dan Maff comes out with a steel chair and puts it between Kingston’s eyes. Maff blathers on about being the real king of the streets, so he doesn’t see Pain coming with a Yakuza kick right in the mush. Pain puts the boots to Maff and tosses him out of the ring. ***1/2 Segment rating: 79%
3rd segment—In the workout room backstage, Sonny Siaki is jogging on a treadmill. He powers down, steps off, wipes his head off with a towel, then finally acknowledges the camera.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I was just working out. Doing a little cardio, some light running. You know about running, right, Roderick Strong? For a guy who’s got a bum wheel, you’re doing an awful lot of running. Running your mouth when you lose, blaming me cause you’re a cripple. Running your mouth, saying you’re coming for me and you’re gonna break my leg. But mostly, the running I see you doing a lot of is running away. Because you don’t want any part of the Ace In The Hole, Sonny Siaki. I already torqued up one of your knees. You can’t handle me doing that again, and the fact is, if you step in the ring with me again, you know I will. I’ll grab that leg and I’ll break it. It’s a good thing Commissioner Sytch sent you home, because if you were to set foot in a Ring Of Honor ring again, why, I may just need to take that Stronghold of yours and put it on you until every bone in your body shattered. Do yourself a favor, Roderick … find a way to keep running. Run right back to TNA. Run to Stamford. Run to … oh, yeah, CZW’s outta business. Never mind. Just run. Cause if you come hobbling back to Ring Of Honor, you won’t limp out … you’ll be carried out on a stretcher.” Segment rating: 79% Notes: Siaki gained overness.
4th segment—Arik Cannon vs. “Diamond” Joey Ryan w/Studio 54 vs. Brent Albright vs. Claudio Castagnoli, four-corners survival: The numbers game that Ryan has in his favor proves too much for everyone, as Larry Sweeney leads his troops in a game of confusion and disorientation, en route to a Ryan victory over Arik Cannon by way of the Mustache Ride. **1/4 Segment rating: 67%
5th segment—Mike Quackenbush vs. “Malibu” Tyler Black w/Studio 54: Studio 54 hang around for Quackenbush to hit the ring for his match against “Malibu” Tyler Black. The ref spoils the plans and sends Studio 54 back to the locker room, but Ryan can’t resist and interferes. With no chance to keep the peace, the ref has to throw out the match. Black and Ryan put the boots to Quack as the ref calls for officials; the disco-lovers hit the bricks before the officials hit the scene. **3/4 Segment rating: 68%
6th segment—Studio 54 (Rave & Chavis) vs. Burning River Brigade vs. Matt Sydal & Jack Evans: Studio 54 comes out for one more match, although this time, officials bar anyone but the active members of the match—“Hot Tub” Jimmy Rave & “Champagne” Kory Chavis—from the ringside area by acting as a human shield. Without their brethren, they get overwhelmed by double, triple and even quadruple-teaming from the BRB and Sydal & Evans. Ultimately, it is Evans who scores the pin on Chavis with a 630. ***1/4 Segment rating: 76%
7th segment—Ruckus vs. The Messiah: With Kaos haunting his every move, Ruckus steps into the ring with the dangerous Messiah. Once again, the rulebook goes right out the window, as the two travel around ringside and then some, inflicting punishment. The finish comes when Kaos nails Ruckus with a steel chair as he’s whipped into the ropes, setting him up for the Godsmack. As Kaos goes for a handshake, Messiah kicks Kaos in the gut and hits the Godsmack. ***1/4 Segment rating: 82%
8th segment—Backstage, Nigel McGuinness is with Gary Michael Cappetta.
“Gary,” says Nigel, “Tonight, I go out into that ring, my ring, and I fight to prove once more that I deserve a Ring Of Honor World Heavyweight Title shot. Tonight, I have to fight Steve Corino, a man I lost to two months ago. I don’t need to do this, because at Gut Check, I have my World Title match, and while I don’t wish anything against Austin Aries, I do hope Chris Hero wins, because I want to make Chris Hero scream in pain. I want him to know that the man who ended his title reign, the man who took from him that which he lied, cheated, and schemed to keep was Nigel McGuinness. Hero, I’m coming for you, and you know you can’t stop me. Not again.” Segment rating: 85%
9th segment—BJ Whitmer vs. Bryan Danielson:“This is what Bryan Danielson wanted,” says Prazak. “He thinks he’s the #1 contender. Whitmer wants a shot. It’s put-up-or-shut-up time.”
With a murky World Title pool, Whitmer and Danielson let it all hang out in their quest to take a step towards claiming a future title shot. Danielson kicks out of multiple Exploders, while Whitmer escapes both the chicken-wing, the Cattle Mutilation, and reverses the MMA elbows. The match concludes when Whitmer annihilates Danielson with a top-rope Exploder for a clean 1-2-3. Austin Aries slides in the ring immediately after and lays into Danielson with a steel chair until he is pulled away, kicking and yelling. ***1/2 Segment rating: 85%
10th segment—Steve Corino vs. Nigel McGuinness:“First, it was the battle of self-proclaimed title contenders,” says Bauer. “Now, we have the #1 contender who can’t seem to cash in his shot, and the man who pissed off the champ to leapfrog into a title shot.”
Once again, the rivals push each other to the limit. With no time limit on the contest, both explore strategies of wearing the other down to the point of collapse. In the end, Corino nails Nigel with a superkick that sends him staggering into the ropes; on the return, he nails the Jawbreaker Lariat and gets the three-count. Corino pounds the mat with his fists at first, but begrudgingly shakes Nigel’s hand. **** Segment rating: 88% Notes: Corino lost overness.
11th segment—Chris Hero (c) vs. Austin Aries, ROH World Title match, no disqualifications: With no disqualifications, Hero uses every shortcut and weapon he can find or think of to try and end the match as quickly as possible. Likewise, Aries employs every trick he can muster to end Hero’s reign. Aries has Hero in place for the 450, but Bryan Danielson comes out and blasts Aries with a chair, knocking him off the turnbuckles. After pummeling Aries with MMA elbows, he drags Hero onto Aries for the three-count. When Hero comes to, Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch comes out and informs Hero that because his victory was tainted by Bryan Danielson again, he will face Austin Aries for a third time, next week. Enraged, Hero attacks Danielson and nails the Hero’s Welcome. ***1/2 Segment rating: 84%
Overall rating: 79%

Preview for Unleashed, Wednesday May 14, 2008:
- Kaos and Dan Maff both got the better of their rivals on Throwdown ... but their ambushes against Eddie Kingston and Ruckus proved costly, as the opponents of their rivals that night, Justice Pain and The Messiah, resented their interference. MDK have demanded retribution, and Commissioner Sytch has granted it--MDK vs. the Exception To The Rule's Dan Maff & Kaos! Will Eddie Kingston and Ruckus be far behind?
- Sonny Siaki had strong words for Roderick Strong. On Unleashed, he will step into the ring with Claudio Castagnoli. The Swiss Money Man's looking to regain some momentum, while Siaki is out to prove he is more then just an ambush artist. Will Strong, still under orders from the Commissioner, stay away?
- Adam Pearce used an old trick--a handful of tights--to up-end Paul Burchill. Burchill isn't taking Pearce's bullying lying down; he's out to prove he belongs in ROH, and is looking to do it with a victory over El Generico!
- Mike Quackenbush and Arik Cannon have something in common: a hatred for Larry Sweeney's Studio 54. They will combine their efforts tonight and go after "Diamond" Joey Ryan and "Malibu" Tyler Black. Also in tag action, "Champagne" Kory Chavis & "Hot Tub" Jimmy Rave look to get back on the winning path by taking on the team they went to a time limit draw with a week ago: the Burning River Brigade!
- Victories by BJ Whitmer and Nigel McGuinness have done nothing to clear up the title picture in the minds of fans, or ROH's front office; Corino still has a guaranteed title shot, and McGuinness is still pencilled in for a title match, live on pay-per-view, at Gut Check on the 25th of May, while Whitmer scored points with his defeat of Bryan Danielson, and Danielson continues to insert himself in the title picture in his own opportunistic way. On Unleashed, Danielson and Corino will defend titles instead of chasing them, as they put their belts on the line for the first time against the men they both lost to on Throwdown, BJ Whitmer & Nigel McGuinness!
- Bryan Danielson's interference in Chris Hero's ROH World Title defense against Austin Aries may have netted Hero a victory ... but per Tammy Lynn Sytch, a tainted win is as good as a loss. Hero will defend his belt one more time against Austin Aries, and this time, to ensure the playing field is level, it will be a steel cage match! Can Hero get the monkey off his back, or will Aries finally bring an end to the reign of Hero?
- And speaking of Danielson and Hero, Hero laid out Danielson with the Hero's Welcome as Throwdown went off the air. Danielson has gotten under the skin of Hero the same way Nigel did. Danielson's partnership with Steve Corino has put tensions between Hero and Corino at a high as well. Something has to break, and break soon ... will it be tonight that this triangle collapses?
Plus: Pure Champion Jimmy Jacobs w/Lisa Marie Jacobs, Incoherance, and more!
Jed Shaffer ~Let's hope it doesn't take two weeks to get up another show. The Danielson/Hero/Corino/Whitmer/Nigel/Aries angle is really set to explode.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008:
Email: 1) WWE got a 3.62 television rating for ECW on Sci-Fi.
Dave Prazak has been released.
Results for Unleashed, May 10, 2008:
“I’m Gary Michael Cappetta, and this is a new era for Ring Of Honor on Wednesdays! Ring Of Honor is Unleashed! Chris Hero will defend his ROH World Title for a third time in a week and a half against Austin Aries, and Bryan Danielson & Steve Corino will defend their ROH Tag Titles for the first time, against the men who beat them last week in singles competition, Nigel McGuinness & BJ Whitmer! It’s a new set, and by my side, a new color commentator: the hardcore icon himself, Terry Funk!”
“It’s great to be here, Gary, looking forward to seeing the stars of Ring Of Honor uphold the tradition of true professional wrestling, each and every week.”
“And let’s do that by going to the ring for our opening bout!”
1st segment—Matt Sydal vs. Alex Shelley vs. Jack Evans vs. Chris Sabin, four-corners survival match: Four of ROH’s best high-fliers, from two of the company’s top tag teams, are thrust head-to-head against their partners. But when the ref is accidentally knocked out by an errant Evans clothesline, Shelley uses a very non-high-flying tactic—the ring bell—to render Evans unconscious, scoring the pinfall. ***3/4 Segment rating: 84%
2nd segment—Cameras backstage find Chris Hero in the hallway, talking on his cell phone. “Yeah, yeah, that’s exactly what I want, to—" is heard before Hero notices the camera and ducks into a nearby room, shutting the door behind him. Segment rating: 86%
3rd segment—Austin Aries is in the locker room, sitting on a bench. “Bryan Danielson, I know why you decided to start attacking me,” he says. “It’s not because I’m some kind of stepping stone to the ROH World Title; I’ve been fighting Jimmy Jacobs since February. I got this shot at Chris Hero at random. It isn’t cause I was in TNA, because you don’t care who your opponents are. It isn’t cause I’m a former champion—you are yourself. The fact is, you came after me because you have no other choice. You have no other way of getting noticed. The people don’t like you anymore; BJ Whitmer, Nigel McGuinness, the Briscoes, hell, even Steve Corino gets more respect from the fans then you do. They’re still chanting for Colt Cabana, and he won’t be back for another 15 months. The fact is, since you signed your ROH contract last year, you haven’t done a damned thing to make yourself stand out from the crowd, while everyone else has; Whitmer went through every member of Hero’s gang … Nigel put on a clinic with Corino … and me and Jimmy Jacobs have spilled more blood in the past three months then most people lose in open heart surgery. So it all it comes down to you, being bitter about being forgotten, and you’re looking for a way to get in the spotlight again. Well, I have a solution for you. You see, after three months of hell with Jimmy Jacobs, I’ve come to appreciate the fine art of spilling blood and breaking bones and putting people in hospitals. So I figure, Bryan Danielson, I’ll help make you famous by giving you a beating that will go down in history for its brutality. I will break every bone in your body, rupture every internal organ, snap your spinal column … and then I’ll go to work on you.” Segment rating: 72%
4th segment—Sonny Siaki vs. Claudio Castagnoli:“Siaki’s streak has given him an ego,” says Cappetta. “I hope he doesn’t overlook Claudio.”
Indeed, Siaki’s ego gets the better of him, as he toys with Claudio until Switzerland’s Most Money Making Man starts taking it to the self-proclaimed “Ace In The Hole”. Siaki starts to target Claudio’s leg, but as he goes to the top rope to do a double-stomp on Claudio’s ankle, Roderick Strong comes out of the crowd, climbs up on the apron and shatters his wooden crutch on Siaki’s leg. Siaki crumbles to the mat, allowing Claudio to hit the Ricola Bomb for the pin. With what’s left of the crutch, Roderick jabs and slams Siaki’s leg into a bruised, battered, broken joint. Siaki screams for mercy, and only gets some when authorities pull Strong to the back. ***1/2 Segment rating: 77% Notes: Claudio gained overness.
5th segment—As Strong is being pulled away, Cappetta breaks in. “Wait, Terry Funk, we have word—director, cut to backstage!”
Backstage, medics rush up on a back hallway, where Bryan Danielson is discovered, lying in a pool of his own blood. Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch shows up and watches as Danielson is taken away on a stretcher. Segment rating: 69% Notes: Danielson lost overness.
6th segment—Mike Quackenbush & Arik Cannon vs. “Diamond” Joey Ryan & “Malibu” Tyler Black: Quackenbush and Ryan call on the former partners, Cannon and Black, as partners of their own for a tag war. Quack owns both Ryan and Black when he squares off, but Cannon makes a mistake and ends up as the face-in-peril. The finish comes when Ryan holds Cannon for Black to nail, only for Black to duck, causing him to hit Ryan. Quack takes out Ryan while Cannon hits his finisher, the Glimmering Warlock, on his ex-partner for the stunning three-count. **1/2 Segment rating: 68% Notes: Cannon & Quack gained overness.
7th segment—Kaos & Dan Maff vs. Murderdeathkill:“Gary, Justice Pain and The Messiah hate everyone and want everyone to pay,” says Funk. “Kaos and Dan Maff got an ass-whipping coming to them tonight for getting involved in their business.”
Funk’s prediction comes true, as the two members of Exception To The Rule get absolutely mauled by the former champs. The only reason MDK doesn’t win is because Eddie Kingston & Ruckus come out of the crowd and start brawling with Kaos and Maff. Pretty soon, MDK joins in, and it becomes a three-way brawl with six men, leaving the ref no choice but to toss the match. ***1/2 Segment rating: 83%
8th segment—Paul Burchill vs. El Generico: Despite the negative opinion of Adam Pearce, Paul Burchill shows he is more then capable of success and acclimation in ROH with a wonderful showing against El Generico, winning with the C4. Pearce tries an ambush, but Burchill is ready and nails the C4 on him as well. **3/4 Segment rating: 70%
9th segment—Studio 54 vs. Burning River Brigade:“Terry, I’m getting word from Commissioner Sytch that Bryan Danielson has been taken to a local hospital,” says Cappetta as the two teams head to the ring, “and he will not be competing tonight. She’s reshuffling the remaining line-up, and should have a replacement match to announce in a few minutes.”
Like their last encounter, the two midcard teams surprise everyone with their skills and teamwork. Unlike last time, this match doesn’t go the distance, as the intensity takes them outside, and the ref has no choice but to throw out the match as all four men travel the arena, trading fisticuffs. *** Segment rating: 74%
10th segment—? Commissioner Sytch comes down to the ring, microphone in hand.
“I promised an ROH Tag Title match tonight, and sadly, I cannot deliver that,” she says. “But Steve Corino, BJ Whitmer and Nigel McGuinness are all still fresh and have to wrestle to earn their paycheck tonight. So, instead of a tag match, you’re gonna get a four-corners survival match with those three men … and the Ring Of Honor Pure Champion, Jimmy Jacobs!”
10th segment—Steve Corino vs. BJ Whitmer vs. Nigel McGuinness vs. Jimmy Jacobs w/Lisa Marie Jacobs, non-title four-corners survival match: The inclusion of Jacobs, a wild card for sure, and his “bride” Lisa Marie, throws off everyone’s gameplan. But it is the gameplan of Jacobs that ends up being the deciding factor, as Lisa Marie’s attempt to clothesline Corino winds up taking out her own “husband”, giving Corino the opportunity to wrap up the match. Corino, Whitmer and McGuinness exchange glances, but leave the ring peacefully, while Jacobs and Lisa Marie bicker. ***3/4 Segment rating: 84%
11th segment—Chris Hero (c) vs. Austin Aries, ROH World Title steel cage match: “Will the third time be the charm for Chris Hero?” asks Cappetta.
“Or will lightning strike once more for Austin Aries and bring him back to the Ring Of Honor World Title?” puts in Funk.
With Danielson out of the picture, and guards all around the cage, there is no one to spoil the match or affect the outcome in either way. Both men taste steel, and both men feel their lifeblood pour from their foreheads as they torture each other inside the cage. Aries shakes off a Hero’s Welcome and follows Hero up the cage, but Hero decks him and sends Aries crashing to the mat, allowing the champ to drop to the floor, capping off a successful title defense, and the exorcism of his problems with Aries. No sooner do Hero’s feet hit the floor then Nigel McGuinness charges, but Hero sidesteps him and throws him face-first into the cage. Hero drags Nigel over to the door, positions his head inside the arc of the door, and slams it on his head; then, for good measure, hits a Hero’s Welcome on the concrete floor. *** Segment rating:

- Since when is the ring bell NOT a high flying tactic?
- That Aries promo was... Awesome!
- You forgot the Segment Rating for your Main Event
- I completely killed the SoTF gimmick, not intentionally, but I had a lot I wanted to do on that PPV and not enough segment slots to pull it off doing it normally. So I just threw the finals of an 8 man tourney on the show. Eddie Kingston won btw. Yes, Im hyping my guys in your diary. You gonna do something about it?

- Since when is the ring bell NOT a high flying tactic? Touche, salesman. Thanks. I enjoy writing the promos most of all. So I did. I think it was in the low 80's. I'm torn on it ... on the one hand, I'd love to use it as a springboard to elevate someone, and perhaps intertwine some storylines. On the other hand, it really won't give someone mega-overness. It's a match, two at most. We'll see. I'll have a number of feuds coming to an end at Gut Check, and I already have the main event set up for June's event, so ... we'll see how I'm feeling come June. Jed Shaffer ~WWE's back down to 6%. HURRY UP AND FALL!!! I NEED TO RAID YOUR ROSTER!!!

Preview for Throwdown, May 17, 2008:
- Adam Pearce, looking to continue his quest to eliminate Paul Burchill from Ring Of Honor, has enlisted the help of "Malibu" Tyler Black, on one condition: they target Arik Cannon as well. The four will tangle in tag action on Throwdown!
- Sonny Siaki got the shock of his life when Roderick Strong defied the orders of Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch, invaded the arena and broken a crutch on Siaki's ankle. Sytch has demanded Strong appear at Throwdown to answer for this attack.
- "Diamond" Joey Ryan has requested time on Throwdown to address Mike Quackenbush. What does the Diamond Of The Dance Floor have to say?
- Steve Corino's night at Unleashed didn't quite go as he expected, albeit he did walk away with a win. He will go one-on-one with Claudio Castagnoli. But where Corino is, it has to be expected his rival, BJ Whitmer, is close behind.
- The man Corino defeated, Jimmy Jacobs, is livid at having lost a match, as his his "wife", Lisa Marie. He wants to inflict pain on someone, and has put out an open contract for a Pure Title defense. Who will step up and sign his name on the dotted line?
- Bryan Danielson has a list of enemies and rivals a mile long: Austin Aries wants to cripple him. He denigrated Ruckus. He's interfered in Chris Hero's matches. He targeted BJ Whitmer a couple weeks ago in an effort to climb the ladder. Someone left him lying in a pool of his own blood on Unleashed. Does Danielson know who it is, and will be seek revenge? Who did it?
- Murderdeathkill are even more pissed off then normal; on Unleashed, BJ Whitmer and Nigel McGuinness leapfrogged over them to a tag title match (it didn't happen, but still). Bryan Danielson isn't scheduled to wrestle on Throwdown, and the tag champs are in singles' action at the PPV, pushing back their ROH Tag Title shot to God knows when. They'll be looking to take out some frustrations by facing their old rivals, The Briscoes.
- Chris Hero had a banner night on Unleashed, finally putting Austin Aries' challenge down after three tries, and he capped it off by busting open the head of Nigel McGuinness. But his parade of defenses isn't over yet ... and Commissioner Sytch refuses to release the name of Hero's next challenger! Is tonight the night Hero falls?
Plus: four-way tag action involving Incoherence, the Burning River Brigade, Jigsaw & Puma, and Studio 54, Jack Evans, Matt Sydal, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Eddie Kingston, Dan Maff, Kaos and Ruckus!
Jed Shaffer ~And with WWE having had their PPV already, the next couple weeks will be nothing but chipping away at the stone.

Saturday, May 17, 2008:
Email: 1) WWE got a 4.89 television rating for Smackdown. 2) TNA got a 0.93 television rating for TNA Friday.
Results for Throwdown, May 17, 2008:
“I’m Jimmy Bauer, alongside my new television broadcast partner, Mike Johnson, and this is Throwdown!”
“That’s right, Jimmy, eight days left until, live on, pay-per-view, Nigel McGuinness gets one more shot at the Ring Of Honor World Champion Chris He—“
“Mike, don’t mean to interrupt, but here comes Chris Hero and the Exception To The Rule! They’re headed to the ring! What business do they have out here?
1st segment—Chris Hero leads the Exception To The Rule into the ring. With the exception of Steve Corino, who stands off in the corner watching with his arms crossed, Hero takes center stage with a microphone.
“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,” says Hero, “I, your Ring Of Honor World Champion for going on ten months now …” Hero pauses to smile to irritate the live crowd, then continues. “On Unleashed, I unleashed something myself. I unleashed a perfect storm. You see, in one night, I managed to take out Nigel McGuinness, I defeated Austin Aries one-two-three in the middle of the ring …” Hero pauses again, his smile as big as the great outdoors. “And I managed to negotiate the biggest talent acquisition in Ring Of Honor history.”
“What’s he talking about?” says Bauer. “He’s not talent relations!”
“You see, the Exception To The Rule is about excellence. It’s about being the exception to the rule in Ring Of Honor, the rule that states you must operate a certain way. The acquisitions I made on Unleashed are not men from outside this company … well, they once were. They came from another company, joined forces and proceeded to destroy the tag team ranks in Ring Of Honor. On Unleashed, I made them an offer they couldn’t refuse: I offered them a pathway to the Ring Of Honor World Tag Team Titles, if they would take care of one man for me … one Bryan Danielson.”
“Oh, God, no,” gasps Johnson. “He can’t be saying—“
Corino steps forward, eyeing Hero in disbelief. “That’s right, everyone, the newest members of Exception To The Rule, and the men who dismantled Bryan Danielson last week … Justice Pain and The Messiah … MURDERDEATHKILL!”
MDK come down to the ring and shake hands with Hero, Pearce and Siaki, their arms raised in unison as Corino, as well as Dan Maff and Kaos, watch from behind in stunned silence.
Segment rating: 67%
2nd segment—Incoherence vs. Jigsaw & Puma vs. Studio 54 (Chavis & Rave) vs. Burning River Brigade, four-corners elimination: Pride, and perhaps recognition by ROH higher-ups, is the only thing on the line in this match. But for Studio 54 and the BRB, who have been developing a rivalry, it goes beyond that. Chavis pins Jigsaw with an elbow off the top rope for the first fall, and Hallowicked eats a double team backdrop to be eliminated second, leaving the BRB and Studio 54. Once again, Studio 54 relies on illegal double-teaming to secure the victory, proving nothing in the growing war between the teams. **3/4 Segment rating: 63%
3rd segment—Jimmy Jacobs w/Lisa Marie Jacobs vs. Eddie Kingston, Pure Title match: The deranged Jacobs, with his “wife”, attacks Kingston like his very life depends on it. Kingston gives as good as he gets, but comes up short thanks to the interference of Dan Maff, who distracts Kingston long enough for Jacobs to get the roll-up. But Kingston gets the moral victory by fighting off both men and Lisa Marie. *** Segment rating: 70% Notes: The Pure Title has lost image.
4th segment—Jack Evans vs. Alex Shelley: With their partners in their corners, Evans and Shelley dazzle the crowd with stunning technical work and crazy aerial maneuvers. Not content to let the best man win, Chris Sabin tries to waffle Evans with a chair, but ends up nailing Shelley, leading to a 630 and a pin for Evans. Sydal comes out to even the odds and the Motor City Machine Guns are sent packing. ***1/4 Segment rating: 73%
5th segment—“Diamond” Joey Ryan comes out, without Studio 54. His hair is a mess, and he hasn’t shaven in a couple days.
“I’ve spent the last few days since me and ‘Malibu’ Tyler Black lost, thinking about things,” says Ryan. “And I’ve come to a decision. I’m never gonna be able to get on with my life and get what I deserve, which is the Ring Of Honor World Title, until I can prove to the world that I am better then Mike Quackenbush. So, at the pay-per-view, that’s what I want: Mike Quackenbush. You hear me, Quack?”
“I do,” says Quack, who steps out onto the stage. “And I’ll tell you what, Joey; I’m gonna be generous and give you more then you’ve given me. I’m gonna give you all the chances at me you can handle … in thirty minutes.” Ryan’s face goes sheet white. “That’s right, Joey. You wanna hang with Mike Quackenbush? 30-minute Iron Man match. See you in eight days, dancing queen.” Segment rating: 55%
6th segment—Chris Hero vs. ? Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch comes out to introduce the challenger. “Ladies and gentlemen, for Chris Hero’s challenger tonight, I’ve picked someone … well, someone I know he has a lot of history with, dating back to another company. For your challenger tonight, Chris, I’ve picked one of Ring Of Honor’s fastest rising stars … Ruckus!”
6th segment—Chris Hero vs. Ruckus, ROH World Title match: Ruckus puts everything he has into the match, unloading every special trick and every big-time move he has in his arsenal. On several occasions, Ruckus gets near falls. But the experience of the wily champion keeps Hero alive, and he keeps Ruckus off-balance with both his technical skills, and his willingness to bend the rules. In the end, Ruckus gets crotched on the top rope, and Hero is able to capitalize by hitting the Hero’s Welcome for the three count. But his celebration ends before it begins, as Bryan Danielson rushes out with a chair and proceeds to leave both men unconscious. ***1/2 Segment rating: 73% Note: The World Title has lost image.
7th segment—BJ Whitmer comes to the ring, but before he can say anything, Steve Corino comes out.
“BJ, we need to get something straight,” says Corino. “I don’t like you. You don’t like me. I respect you’re a hell of an athlete, and that you have a personal reason for going after Chris Hero. Unfortunately for you, I’m standing in your way, and I have no intention of stepping aside.”
“And I ain’t about to let you stop me,” says Whitmer.
Corino smiles. “Next Sunday. You and me, we’re wrestling, right? You know we don’t need rules. We don’t need disqualifications getting in our way. We’re both men. We’ve gone through barbed wire, broken glass, had steel chairs broken on us, been through tables. Why don’t we just get rid of the rules, huh? You, me and a referee to count the fall. Sound good?”
“Fine by me.”
Corino extends a hand. Whitmer takes it and gives a couple of stiff pumps. “Good,” says Corino. “Then you won’t mind if I dispense with the niceties right now.” With that, Corino grabs Whitmer’s hand in both of his, grabs two fingers and yanks in opposite directions. Whitmer falls to his knees, clutching his hand; Corino backs up a step, and kicks a perfect field goal kick right into Whitmer’s hand. Segment rating: 90%
8th segment—Paul Burchill & Arik Cannon vs. Adam Pearce & “Malibu” Tyler Black w/Studio 54:“Adam Pearce does not speak for Ring Of Honor,” says Jimmy Bauer, “and his beliefs regarding Paul Burchill do not reflect those of Ring Of Honor. Adam Pearce is a horrible human being.”
But Pearce, a master of dirty tricks, knows how to get the job done, and steals a victory from his nemesis and Arik Cannon, ramming Burchill’s face into an exposed turnbuckle and putting his feet on the ropes during the pin. But Cannon and Burchill get right back up and show their spirit by brawling with Pearce and Black out the front doors. **1/4 Segment rating: 63%
9th segment—Steve Corino vs. Claudio Castagnoli: Corino comes out to a chorus of boos for his earlier actions, which Corino brushes off as he takes on Switzerland’s own Claudio Castagnoli. The #1 contender gets a surprise as Claudio puts up a great fight, peppering him with European uppercuts, but Corino is able to dodge a clothesline attempt to set up a superkick and the Old School Expulsion. BJ Whitmer comes out, his hand heavily bandaged and splinted, but one kick from Corino stops him cold, and Whitmer gets an Expulsion for his troubles. *** Segment rating: 70%
10th segment—Commissioner Sytch comes out, holding a clipboard. “Right now,” she says, “I’d like to summon someone to the ring, someone I personally invited here, since he decided on Unleashed to crash the party against my orders. Roderick Strong, please join me right now.”
Strong comes out, walking with a limp and holding the remains of the broken crutch to the delight of the fans. Sytch holds up the clipboard, which has a piece of paper on it, as Strong gets in the ring. “Normally, I’m one for rules, Roderick. I asked you—I told you, in fact—to stay home and heal up. You defied me. Normally, I’d suspend you without pay.” The crowd boos. “But … but … I understand why you’re doing this. You’d rather fight through it. Beating Sonny Siaki means more to you then your own health, and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna deprive the ROH fans the opportunity to see you face Sonny Siaki.” The crowd explodes; Strong smiles big. “But, see, the ROH higher-ups, they’re worried. They’re worried, because you’re already injured, and they don’t want this biting them in the ass. So right here, I have a document, and you, Roderick Strong, have a choice. You can sign it … or you can turn it down. If you don’t sign, you will be ordered to stay home until your doctor says you are 100%, and if I see you even buy a ticket to watch from the audience, you’ll be terminated. If you sign this, though, Roderick … if you sign, you get Sonny Siaki at Gut Check in a match of your choosing. But the catch is, if you sign, you also sign away the right to sue Ring Of Honor, you waive your right to anymore rematches, and if you lose to Sonny Siaki, you go on the injured list until you’re 100% anyway.” Sytch hands the clipboard to Strong. “Your choice, Roderick.”
Strong doesn’t hesitate for a second in signing. Sytch nods slightly. “I figured you’d sign. Before I can let you go tonight, I need to know under what stipulations you’ll be facing Sonny Siaki.”
Strong smiles. “See, Commissioner Sytch, it’s real simple. My injury may hamper me, it may make things hard, but it doesn’t make me give up. I don’t give up, and I won’t give up, especially not to that son of a bitch Sonny Siaki. I’m gonna make him give up. In fact, I’m gonna make him say … I Quit.” Segment rating: 59%
11th segment—The Briscoes vs. Murderdeathkill: Predictably, the MDK/Briscoes match is a wild affair. The ref has no choice but to let the four fight it out with relaxed rules, since none of the four even try to stay within the boundaries. Justice Pain looks to have Mark Briscoe set up for the Pain Thriller, but Bryan Danielson comes out with the steel chair again, smashing Pain in the leg. A Cut-Throat Suplex later, and Pain is on the mat, being pinned. Danielson pushes past the Briscoes to go after The Messiah and takes him to the ground, but before he can put on Cattle Mutilation, Austin Aries runs out and beats on Danielson until the American Dragon heads for higher ground. ****1/4 Segment rating: 80%
Overall rating: 70%
