February 2nd, 1998: WCW Monday Nitro
Tony Schiavone is very excited for Nitro tonight, which promises to be a can't miss prospect, with Davey Boy Smith representing WCW against Randy Savage of the nWo, two titles on the line as US champion Diamond Dallas Page faces TV champion Booker T, and Sting defending his WCW World Heavyweight title against Bret Hart in Bret's first title match since coming to WCW. This Nitro, he promises us, will be the greatest night in the history of our sport.
Scott Norton is in the ring as Nitro starts, holding onto a microphone. "Giant! I know you must be back there. I wanna talk about this little thing between you an' me. See, Buff helped me out in that triple threat all that time ago, and it was just business. You came after Buff like it was personal, and I stepped in, because it's just business, and you were setting to put my friend back in hospital over just business. Now it was just business when I went to the ring to beat the snot out of Perry Saturn, but you came after me, because to you, it's personal. I got no idea how you work in ttis business if you're gonna take everything so personal, but if personal is what you want, so be it. This thing between you and me, it just got serious. Watch your back, big guy, and I'll see you in the ring at Superbrawl." Norton drops the microphone and makes his way tot eh back, only to be met by The Giant coming out to meet him. The two begint o brawl on the ramp, and referees, security, road agents and midcarders quickly push themselves between the two hulking men.

We go backstage and see Bischoff once again knocking on Larry Zybysko's door. Once again, he's told to come in, and once again, he does, once again putting on his smarmiest voice.
"You wanted to see me?"
"Yes, Eric. Yes I did. Just wanted to let you know I've pencilled that triple threat you wanted in."
Eric looks shocked for a moment, but he quickly covers it.
"Really? Knew you'd see reason. What changed your mind?"
"Something a bird told me. We're done here now."
Bischoff leaves, a sly smirk on his face, which is nothing compared to how smug Larry Zybysko looks. Tony Schiavone wonders aloud why Larry looks so smug.

There's nWo action up next tonight as well, as Randy Savage faces Davey Boy Smith.
Randy Savage vs Davey Boy Smith
Savage starts off cockily, underestimating Smith, who makes him pay for the mistake by overwhelming Savage. Savage uses cheap shots to get the advantage back, and works Smith over, keeping him from building momentum, until Smith is able to power out of a headlock and mount a comeback, dazing Savage with a barrage of clotheslines and slams, before going for the running powerslam. He's gone for it too early, however, and Savage is able to drop out behind him and roll him up, grabbing the tights for leverage, and earning a three count.
Winner: Randy Savage

Savage quickly escapes backstage, before a dejected and frustrated Smith heads backstage himself, where he bumps into Piper, who once again is encouraging. "Don't bother. I lost." Smith replys, but Piper pats him sympathetically on his back and says "Yeah you did. YOu did because you were too enthusiastic, and Savage is a wily veteran, for all his crazy act. You're the better man, you just need more experience on your side. Which is where I come in, kid. Let me manage you. Between the two of us, there's no-one in this company we can't beat. What do you say?" Smith is smiling once again, and quietly says "Yeah, yeah, this could be good. This company won't know what hit it" as we fade from this scene...

...and to the nWo locker room backstage, which Savage has just got back to. He's being congratulated on the win when Bischoff steps in, and immediately notices the absence of Nash or Hall. Bischoff wondered where they were.
"Where's Hall and Nash?"
"Looks like they did what they were told for once. They've been keeping away from Hogan and Savage." Bagwell replies.
"Clever move."
"Cowardly move, more like. They know Hulk here'll crush 'em if they don't, ain't that right, Hulk?"
There's a bit of laughter, interrupted by Konnan standing up angrily and shouting at Hogan
"This is bullshit, dog! Scott won that shot, and now here you are, actin' like he done something wrong by wanting it. It ain't all Hogan, dog! It ain't all about you! What if it'd been me who wanted the shot, huh? Screw all you guys, I ain't having none of this."
Konnan storms towards the door. Bischoff places a hand on his arm to calm him, but is shoved roughly aside. Bischoff sighs, then gives Hogan the news about Souled Out, before leaving to find the Outsider's.

The next backstage scene we cut to is Bret Hart, who has something to say about his match later tonight.
"Well, I said I'd move onto bigger and better things, and here I am, set to win my first WCW World Heavyweight Championship later tonight. And let's make no bones about it, that's what's goign to happen. Sting, you were a great wrestler once, but I can't see you getting much experience sitting up in the rafters, and I somehow don't think that brawling with Hogan and Luger has taken off the ring rust you'd need to lose just to hang with a wrestler of my caliber. See, it's inevitable. By the end of the night, I won't just be the best there is, was, and ever will be, I'll be the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. See you later tonight Sting, and I hope you enjoyed your last night with that belt."

Another title match first, however, as Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page both put their gold on the line.
Booker T vs Diamond Dallas Page, WCW Television/WCW United States Title match
The two start by shaking hands, showing respect for each other's talents, before circling each other cautiously. The two chain wrestle, but when it looks like Page has the advantage there, Booker starts to use his martial arts kicks to even things out. He misses a charge in the corner, however, and Page goes for the Diamond Cutter. Booker pushes Page away, and throws a sidekick, which downs the United States champion. Page rolls to his feet, only to be kicked in the gut, a set up to the scissors kick. Page dodges the kick, however, and backslides Booker for two. As both men stand, Page is able to hit a DDT, which also earns a two, before locking on a leg lock, trying to take Booker's deadly legs out. Booker reaches the ropes, however, but is pulled up into a piledriver, which also only gets two, Booker showing great determination to become a double champion. Page pulls Booker up by the head, and tries to brainbuster him, only to be kneed in the head. Booker short arm clotheslines Page, and pulls him up for a powerbomb, which only gets two. Page is dragged to the corner, where he takes a thunderous superplex, which keeps both men down for 6. The two slowly reach their feet, trading shots in the corner, which Booker gets the better of when he starts to use kicks. Page staggers towards the middle of the ring, where Booker charges at him for a clothesline. Page goes for the cutter again, but Booker has it scouted, and turns Page around, hitting a back suplex with bridge for a two count. Booker suplexes Page into the middle of the ring, and goes up top for a HOuston Hangover, which also only earns him two. A look of astonishment hits Booker's face as he wonders what it will take to put Page away. Booker pulls Page up for another powerbomb, but as he's being pulled up onto Booker's shoulders, Page is able to escape, hitting the Diamond Cutter. This too only gets two however, stunning the crowd and Page. The two once again trade shots while barely being able to stand, Booker winning the excahnge with a superkick. Not bothering to cover, Booker goes up top, and waits for Page to stand, before leaping in the air, attempting to nail Page with a corssbody. Page jumps to meet him however, and delivers a midair Diamond Cutter that finally puts Booker away for three.
Winner, still WCW United States champion, and new WCW Television champion: Diamond Dallas Page

Hall, Nash and Konnan are lounging backstage, Hall with a can of beer in his hand, and Nash smoking a cigar. Konnan looks a little calmer now.
"It ain't right, yo. Just ain't right. When you take that belt, you best know I'm coming for ya, just like he shoulda known you'd be coming for it. It's the belt, man. It's the reason we all here."
Scott hands him another beer, as Bischoff turns up, and excitedly gives them the news of the match. Hall responds by simply draining his beer, and saying
"So? I still gotta share my shot with that waste of air. It's something, but don't be looking for a party just because I got what I shoulda got a month ago, but worse. Clear out, Eric."
Eric clears out.

Bret Hart vs Sting (c), WCW World Heavyweight Title match
The main event rolls around, and Sting's battle with Bret is even handed, swinging back and forth and exciting the fans, who keep up duelling chants through the whole of it. Both men target the legs and lower back of the other, looking to lock in their similar signature submissions, and while it starts out fast paced, within ten minutes the two are limping around the ring. After a superplex by Bret on Sting, the pain caused to Bret and Sting's backs keep them down for a seven count. The two pace each other slowly, before Bret kicks Sting in the gut and snaps him down with a quick DDT which earns him two. Sting, too dazed to do more, does manage to move his legs under the ropes, sheltering them from the sharpshooter. Bret is slowly reaching his feet when Ric Flair comes thundering down the ramp with a steel chair. His back to the ramp, he doesn't notice, however, until it's too late, as Flair stands behind him, and calls his name. He turns around, and is caught full blast in the head. Charles Robinson has the bell rung, and Flair discards the chair, standing over the prone and bleeding Hart.
"Bigger and better, huh? You don't look so big or so good down there, do you, punk?"
