Wednesday, April 23, 2008:
Email: 1) WWE’s ECW on Sci-Fi got a 3.69 rating
Results for Driven, April 19, 2008:
“Jimmy Bauer, alongside Dave Prazak, welcome you to the final Driven before Ring Of Honor presents, live on pay-per-view this Sunday, Supercard Of Honor! Time to go the ring for our opening bout!”
1st segment—Roderick Strong & mystery partner vs. “Diamond” Joey Ryan & Sonny Siaki: Roderick Strong, hobbling from last week’s attack but still insisting on wrestling, introduces his mystery partner: Ruckus. Unforutnately, Ruckus can’t fight off two men, as Strong’s weakened leg ends up hurting the team. The ref gets caught in between Strong and Siaki, and during an attempt by Strong to put Siaki in the Stronghold, Ryan slips Siaki the ring bell. The ref wakes up to find Siaki covering Strong. ***1/4 Segment rating: 76% Notes: Siaki & Ryan gained overness, Ruckus lost overness.
2nd segment—Steve Corino approaches Bryan Danielson’s locker room, knocks and enters. Cameras catch Corino saying “We need to talk, Bryan, about our partnering together,” before the door shuts. Segment rating: 93%
3rd segment—Incoherence vs. Tyler Black & Arik Cannon: Delirious catches Cannon in the Cobra Clutch Crossface to secure a submission victory. Afterwards, Cannon goes to leave, dejected at having lost; Black stops him and starts to berate him until Cannon pushes Black and walks away. **1/4. Segment rating: 65%
4th segment—The Motor City Machine Guns are backstage with Rebecca Bayless.
“Rebecca,” says Alex Shelley, “you know it, I know it, Chris knows it, the whole world knows it: the true kings of indy tag wrestling are the Motor City Machine Guns. Japan, AAA, even TNA, we’ve been everywhere … the Briscoes can’t say that. They can’t say they’ve travelled the globe, competed with the best and won gold everywhere they’ve been. But they get all the accolades, they get all the ass-kissing. At Supercard Of Honor, that ends. Because at Supercard Of Honor, there won’t be any honor—that’s right, Rebecca. That’s right, Briscoes. You and us, a Fight Without Honor. That’s where we prove, once and for all, who the superior team is.”
“That’s right, Alex,” says Chris Sabin. “There’s no need for hype videos. The time for talking is through. Come Sunday, we prove to the world that the golden boys of indy tag wrestling … are made of fool’s gold.” Segment rating: 84%
5th segment—Claudio Castagnoli & Eddie Kingston vs. Austin Aries & Paul Burchill: “This is just bound to explode,” says color man Mike Johnson. And very quickly, it does, as every man in the match—men who will be going one-on-one-one-on-one at Supercard Of Honor, with the Pure Title on the line—all want momentum on their side, and to send a message to their competitors. A badly timed run on the ropes by Claudio knocks his partner off the top turnbuckle; from there, Paul Burchill is able to grab Kingston and nail the C4 for the victory. As soon as the bell rings, all hell breaks loose and all four men are fighting. *** Segment rating: 77%
6th segment—Mike Quackenbush vs. “Hot Tub” Jimmy Rave: With only “Hot Tub” Jimmy Rave standing between him and a crack at “Diamond” Joey Ryan, Quackenbush unloads on Rave and takes him down with the Quackendriver. But Larry Sweeney seems unfazed as Quackenbush gives him a piece of his mind. Sweeney suggests he turn around, and when he does, Quackenbush finds himself on the receiving end of the God’s Last Gift, the finisher of Tyler Black. Sweeney applauds and signals to Black, who stands over Quack’s unconscious body. ** Segment rating: 64% Notes: Black’s turn is complete, and is now a heel. Black gained overness from the turn.
7th segment—Jimmy/Lisa Marie promo against Lacey/Aries: In a darkened room, lit only by candles, are Jimmy Jacobs and his “wife” Lisa Marie. Jimmy’s head is downcast, hair obscuring his face.
“You took Lacey … you’ve taken my Pure Title … you’ve taken my everything, Austin Aries. I’ve bled … I’ve suffered … I’ve endured every humiliation possible, and yet, you keep tormenting me, mocking me. Your good looks, your legacy as a former World Champion … your very existence ridicules me. The pain you heap upon me is endless. You are every schoolyard bully, every abusive father-figure, every negative influence that has ever belittled, abused and emotionally crippled me.”
Lisa Marie kisses Jimmy on the head, then stands erect, her hands gnashing together. “What we’re going to do to you, Austin Aries and Lacey, in return … will make what you’ve done to Jimmy seem like Heaven.” Segment rating: 72%
8th segment—Matt Sydal vs. Jack Evans vs. The Messiah vs. Justice Pain, four-corners survival: Tag teams and tag partners collide in a four-corners survival match, requested by the tag champs themselves. Evans and Sydal use their speed once again to keep Murderdeathkill off their game, and Sydal is able to score the winning pin on Justice Pain with the Here We Go Driver. ***1/2 Segment rating: 81%
9th segment—BJ Whitmer vs. Dan Maff: After several weeks, Dan Maff returns to Ring Of Honor, in the service of the Exception To The Rule, looking to put out BJ Whitmer. But Whitmer’s quest for vengeance against Chris Hero and his minions is too much for Maff to endure, so Whitmer’s rival, Steve Corino, comes to Maff’s aid. Corino misses a chair shot and blasts Maff, allowing Whitmer to nail the Exploder for the pin. Whitmer leaves, and Maff shows his appreciation to Corino by cold-cocking him. ***3/4 Segment rating: 82%
10th segment—Steve Corino & Chris Hero vs. The Briscoes: Corino demands the microphone from the ring announcer before she can announce Chris Hero. “I’ve f**king had it with the bulls**t in this group! Nobody’s working together! This isn’t a group of people, this is a bunch of individuals, and I for one am sick of it! I know there’s someone—one guy and one guy only—who has my back: Bryan Danielson!”
10th segment—Steve Corino & Chris Hero Bryan Danielson vs. The Briscoes: “The Exception To The Rule are falling apart at the seams!” screams Gary Michael Cappetta. “Corino’s siding with Bryan Danielson!”
Danielson comes out instead of Chris Hero, much to the surprise of The Briscoes, and everyone else for that matter. But while they operate well together, Corino’s frustration allows him to get distracted, and he allows himself to be isolated long enough for Danielson to fall to a Jay Driller. ****1/2 Segment rating: 89%
11th segment—? Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch comes to the ring with five minutes left in the show. “I promised you guys you’d see Chris Hero in action tonight, and I’m not about to start breaking promises to you, even when other people take it upon themselves to change up the card. So, Chris Hero get down here!”
Hero comes down and demands to know his opponent is. “Well, there’s one guy in the back who’s here. He hasn’t wrestled tonight, and he said he’d like to,” she says with a clever smile on her face. “In fact, I think you know the bloke” With that, Nigel McGuinness races down to the ring and they start brawling. Unfortunately, time runs out and the match is ruled a no-contest, even as the two brawl around the arena. ****1/4 Segment rating: 92%
Overall rating: 80%
Thursday, April 24, 2008:

Preview for Throwdown, April 26, 2008:
-Wednesday's Driven saw the shocking turn by Tyler Black, attacking Mike Quackenbush after Quack had defeated "Hot Tub" Jimmy Rave. Is Tyler Black now swinging with Studio 54? Will Quack get "Diamond" Joey Ryan at the PPV? And what about Tyler Black's former partner, Arik Cannon?
-Paul Burchill has yet to taste defeat in ROH. He's even pinned Eddie Kingston and Brent Albright, both former Pure Champions. He has a Pure Title shot in a four-way elimination match at Supercard Of Honor. Tonight, he takes on the former Pure Champion, Jimmy Jacobs, who has served notice that he is not even close to being done with Pure Champion Austin Aries.
-Speaking of Austin Aries, he will be in action in a non-title clash of the champions, as he takes on ROH World Champion Chris Hero!
-Since Colt Cabana's injury, Bryan Danielson is now without an opponent for Supercard Of Honor. We have word he's issued an open challenge. Will anyone step up?
-On Driven, Steve Corino and Bryan Danielson, two of ROH's most elite--albeit despised--athletes failed to defeat The Briscoes. In that same vein, Throwdown's main event will see the partnering of Nigel McGuinness and BJ Whitmer, squaring off against the ROH World Tag Champions, Murderdeathkill!
-Steve Corino made a shocking declaration, that he only trusts Bryan Danielson to watch his back. Tension has been building between Hero and Corino since Arena Warfare, and some say before that. Will the ticking time bomb between them finally explode?
Plus: Team Ego, Incoherance, Eddie Kingston, Claudio Castagnoli, Adam Pearce, Brent Albright, Matt Sydal, Jack Evans, Sonny Siaki and Roderick Strong!
Jed Shaffer ~I think, come the start of the month, I'm opening a developmental. Got a few people who need the rough edges sharpened.

Saturday, April 26, 2008:
Email: 1) WWE’s Smackdown got a 5.45 rating 2) TNA’s TNA Friday got a 0.85 rating.
Results for Throwdown, April 26, 2008:
“Jimmy Bauer here, alongside Dave Prazak, and we are 24 hours away from Supercard Of Honor, live on pay-per-view! Tonight on Throwdown, Team Ego will take on Incoherence, the World Champion and the Pure Champion will go one-on-one in a non-title match, and in our main event, Murderdeathkill will take on BJ Whitmer & Nigel McGuinness! Let’s go the ring for our opening bout!”
1st segment—Jimmy Jacobs w/Lisa Marie Jacobs vs. Paul Burchill: With wins over two Pure Champions thus far, Burchill looks to make it all three to build momentum to his Pure Title shot tomorrow. Jacobs, meanwhile, wants back into the Pure Title picture. Both are denied, however, when the first Pure Champion, Eddie Kingston, slides into the ring and starts hitting anyone and everyone in his path. The ref has no choice but to throw out the match. **3/4 Segment rating: 76%
2nd segment—Matt Sydal & Jack Evans are in the ring, going through the usual pre-PPV posturing. While their backs are turned, Murderdeathkill race down to the ring with steel chairs in hand. Evans gets his wig split, then bulldogged into a chair set up in the middle of the ring, breaking the chair and splitting him open. Sydal gets pummeled, then hit with a con-chair-to, leaving him bleeding as well. MDK leaves, laughing with pride. “There’s only 24 hours before Supercard Of Honor! How are Sydal & Evans gonna be in any shape to wrestle tomorrow?” asks Jimmy Bauer. Segment rating: 72%
3rd segment—Incoherence vs. Team Ego: Team Ego, back after a couple weeks off, continue their winning ways when Kevin Steen uses an exposed turnbuckle against Hallowicked for the pin. **3/4 Segment rating: 69%
4th segment—Bryan Danielson steps into the ring, looking very smug. “Since my scheduled opponent for Supercard Of Honor had a little … heh, heh, heh … accident—“
“Accident my ass!” yells Dave Prazak. “Bryan Danielson injured Colt Cabana on purpose!”
“I’m now without an opponent for tomorrow. I put out an open challenge to anyone who thinks they can step and take me, and so far, no one has put their name do—“
“You want a fight, punk?” says a voice over the PA. Through the curtain steps Ruckus. “Just cause you beat me once, that don’t mean you are again. You got yourself an ass-whipping tomorrow, boy!”
Danielson nods, smiling, then rushes into the aisle. The two trade punches until they disappear behind the curtain. Segment rating: 73%
5th segment—Larry Sweeney leads Studio 54 to the ring, strutting like he owns the place. “Mike Quackenbush!” he bellows. “Now you understand why Larry Sweeney is the greatest sports agent in the history of the biz! He gets the job done, he keeps his athletes rollin’ in the lap of luxury, and he always protects his investments! You think I’m gonna let you get to ‘Diamond’ Joey Ryan that easy? No dice, amigo! I said if you wanted Ryan, you’d need to go through all the members of Studio 54 … and that includes … ‘Malibu’ Tyler Black!”
Tyler Black—now christened with the name “Malibu”—comes out, dressed like the rest of Studio 54. He shakes hands with Sweeney. “If you want Ryan, Quackers, get your butt down here and try to get through ‘Malibu’!” Segment rating: 70% Notes: Tyler Black’s new gimmick (“That 70’s Guy”) got a good response. Sweeney & Black gained overness.
6th segment—Mike Quackenbush vs. “Malibu” Tyler Black w/Studio 54: Quack hits the ring in a run and takes it right to Black. Black puts up the hardest fight yet, and has Quack on the ropes when he calls for Joey Ryan. Ryan goes for a clothesline, but Quack ducks and Black gets nailed instead. Quack punches Ryan right out of the ring, then pounces on Black, puts on the Lightning Lock and scores the submission victory. Ryan starts to climb up on the apron, but Arik Cannon races out to stand by Quack and helps him clear the ring. **3/4 Segment rating: 67% Notes: Quackenbush gained overness.
7th segment—Eddie Kingston vs. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Adam Pearce vs. Brent Albright, four-corners elimination: First fall: After a ref bump, Kingston manages to score the pinfall against Pearce after a brutal sit-out powerbomb.
Second fall: Claudio pins Albright off a superplex.
Third fall: Claudio pins Kingston off a Ricola Bomb, giving Claudio the most momentum going into tomorrow. **1/2 Segment rating: 71%
8th segment—“Look at Roderick Strong,” says Prazak as Strong limps to the ring. “He’s determined to go out and fight tomorrow, even on the bum wheel!”
“I didn’t get to where I am in this company by being a quitter,” says Strong. “I don’t care if I have one bad leg, or two, or if I’m in a damned wheelchair. The fact of the matter is, I’ve made Sonny Siaki tap to the Stronghold more times then I can c--”
Siaki hits the ring and kicks out Strong’s bad leg from under him. After a few more stomps, Siaki slides out, grabs a chair, slides back in and fits it around Strong’s ankle. Siaki climbs up to the top rope, jumps and Pillmanizes Strong’s ankle. Officials swarm the ring and pull Siaki away, but Strong has to be carried away. Segment rating: 70% Notes: Siaki gained overness.
9th segment—Chris Hero vs. Austin Aries, non-title match: Even without the belts on the line, Hero and Aries battle as if their very lives depend on it, unloaded everything they have and even stealing from each other’s arsenal. In the end, Aries is able to pick up steam for the weekend, nailing a brainbuster for the pinfall. Frustrated, Hero grabs a chair and as Aries is celebrating, plasters the Pure Champion with it. Lacey comes out to check on Aries and helps him to the back. ***1/2 Segment rating: 85%
10th segment—As Aries and Lacey are walking through the halls, Jimmy Jacobs and Lisa Marie come out from a janitor’s closet and ambush them, throwing them into the concrete walls and using anything around to add to the beatdown. Jimmy licks some blood off Aries’ forehead and grins, the blood staining his teeth. Segment rating: 69% Notes: Aries lost overness. Lacey gained overness.
11th segment—Murderdeathkill vs. Nigel McGuinness & BJ Whitmer: The men at the center of the World Title hunt team together against the Tag Champions and put up a fight that puts the champs on their heels. Predictably, Chris Hero and Steve Corino can’t resist attacking their enemies, but they don’t coordinate their attacks, and Nigel is able to put The Messiah in the crosshairs of Chris Hero’s chair attack. A Tower Of London is academic. When Whitmer and Nigel clear out, MDK attack Hero and Corino, leaving them lying on the mat 24 hours before their big confrontations. **** Segment rating: 89%
Overall rating: 75%

1% of PI was gained (total: 48%).
Results for Supercard Of Honor, April 27, 2008:
Dark match: “Malibu” Tyler Black w/Studio 54 vs. Arik Cannon: Former tag partners collide in the evening’s dark match. The numbers game is too much for Cannon, as Mickie James distracts Cannon long enough for Black to surprise Cannon with The Paroxysm. **3/4 Segment rating: 67%
“Jimmy Bauer here, alongside Dave Prazak, and this is Supercard Of Honor! Three big title matches, and a grudge match for the ages are all on tap for tonight! Tonight’s Let’s go the ring for our opening bout!”
1st segment—Bryan Danielson vs. Ruckus: Answering Danielson’s open challenge on Throwdown, Ruckus shows off impressive technical and high-flying skills that get the crowd chanting for Ruckus like never before. Numerous near-falls and near-submissions on both sides, but Danielson is still too much and, at nearly the twenty minute mark, Danielson cinches in the Cattle Mutilation. Ruckus has nowhere to go, and must tap. Danielson offers a handshake, but decks Ruckus instead. ****1/4 Segment rating: 85%
2nd segment—Mike Quackenbush vs. “Diamond” Joey Ryan w/Studio 54: Larry Sweeney leads his troops to the ring, minus “Diamond” Joey Ryan.
“It seems ‘Diamond’ Joey Ryan’s plane tickets were lost by this rinky-dink operation, surprise, surprise,” says Sweeney. “I know it disappoints you all to know that you won’t get the pleasure of seeing Ring Of Honor’s sexiest man alive tear Mike Quackenbush limb-from-limb, but I can’t make magic happen. Well, I can, but not this kind of magic. Besides,” he adds with a wry smile, “there’s a problem; Quackster, you still haven’t defeated everyone in Studio 54. There’s still two members you haven’t faced: Mickie James, and yours truly, the ICW/ICWA Texarkana Champion himself, Larry Sweeney! So, if you want Joey, get your butt down here and see if you can take two-on-one!”
2nd segment—Mike Quackenbush vs. “Diamond” Joey Ryan “Sweet n Sour” Larry Sweeney & Mickie James, 2-on-1 handicap match: Quackenbush doesn’t need a written invitation, and doesn’t need long to dismantle the manager/valet combo, either. Amazingly, it’s Mickie James who puts up more of a fight, but it isn’t enough. Quack is able to hit the Quackendriver on Sweeney, and that’s all she wrote. *3/4. Segment rating: 66% Notes: Sweeney lost overness.
3rd segment—Roderick Strong vs. Sonny Siaki: Strong’s limp is very pronounced; Siaki uses it like a bullseye and focuses all his attention on it, rendering most of Strong’s offense null and void. Still, Strong puts up a valiant effort, and almost has Siaki in jeopardy, but Siaki floats through a suplex, rolls up Strong and uses a handful of tights, and pressure on the sore leg, to finally score a pinfall victory over Strong. **3/4 Segment rating: 78% Notes: Siaki gained overness.
4th segment—Austin Aries (c) w/Lacey vs. Paul Burchill vs. Eddie Kingston vs. Claudio Castagnoli, Pure Title four-corners elimination match: First fall: Burchill has Aries pinned after a superplex, but the ref gets hit in the head with Aries’ leg, and isn’t able to make the three count. Aries is able to tag out, and Burchill ends up pinning Claudio on an Exploder.
Second fall: Kingston works over Burchill, but when Aries is tagged in, he is too much for the former champ. A Diamond Dust puts Kingston’s shoulders to the mat for three seconds.
Third fall: Having seen enough of Aries getting out by the skin of his teeth, Jimmy Jacobs comes down with a chair. Aries reversed an Irish whip, sending Burchill into the chair without knowing it. Aries scores the pinfall—Burchill’s first loss—on a roll-up as Jacobs fumes outside. *** Segment rating: 76%
5th segment—The Briscoes vs. Motor City Machine Guns, Fight Without Honor: Everything that isn’t nailed down—and half the things that are—get used to settle the blood feud between these teams once and for all. In the end, The Briscoes live up to their reputation and put away Chris Sabin with a Spike Jay Driller for three. ***** Segment rating: 95% Notes: Everyone gained overness from the feud ending.
6th segment—Murderdeathkill (c) Matt Sydal & Jack Evans, ROH Tag Title match: Finally, with the tag titles on the line, the two teams collide. Once again, the dazzling aerial offense of Sydal & Evans dizzies MDK, and though they fight back with power and liberal bending of the rules, a crucial misfire (Justice Pain bouncing off the ropes as The Messiah climbed the turnbuckle) proves the difference-maker; Sydal is able to hit the Here We Go Driver on Messiah for the pin. ****1/4 NEW TAG CHAMPIONS Segment rating: 86%
7th segment—Steve Corino vs. BJ Whitmer: The two hardcore brawlers keep it legal, but make it vicious nonetheless as they battle for the right to call themselves the #1 contender (behind Nigel McGuinness). Neither shows an ounce of give, and kick out of multiple finishers. A super-Exploder leaves both men lying on the mat, out of breath, and before they can get to their feet, the 30-minute time limit expires. As soon as they regain their breath, they start brawling again, right through the crowd and out the front door, until officials tear them apart. ***** Segment rating: 98%
8th segment—Chris Hero (c) vs. Nigel McGuinness, ROH World Title match: Nigel proves the better athlete and has Hero on the ropes the entire match. Hero has to cheat to get the upper hand, and even then, it’s short-lived. Nigel manages to kick out of a Hero’s Welcome, and powers out of a cravate, but cannot gather his wits long enough to counter Hero after a Northern Lights bomb leads to a roll-up with a handful of tights. Hero gets the tainted victory and high-tails it without even picking up his belt. Nigel taunts Hero, holding the belt and daring him to come get it as the PPV fades to black. ****1/4 Segment rating: 92%
Overall rating: 85%

See, you go and do something spectacular with Supercard of Honor, but then you blow-off your show after that because you want to finish out the month. Shame, shame, Jed. That's why WWE will always rule! You'll never see sloppy booking like that. Irrational booking, idiotic booking, hell even lazy booking. But never sloppy!
... unless it involved the Godwins.

I've always done that. If there's a show between the end of the month and my PPV, I always treat it as a "recap" show and autobook it. I still get the $$$ for adverts, so it's all good in my hood.

-Mike Quackenbush has run through every single member of Studio 54. All that remains is his promised shot at "Diamond" Joey Ryan. Will Throwdown be where Quack finally gets what he wants?
-Paul Burchill tasted his first defeat at Supercard Of Honor at the hands of Pure Champion Austin Aries. On Throwdown, he'll try to get back on the winning path for another shot at the Pure Title.
-Likewise, Eddie Kingston was unsuccessful, and as the week before Supercard Of Honor showed, he's willing to do whatever it takes to get back to that belt. On Throwdown, he'll tangle with the Exception To The Rule's Dan Maff.
-The man that beat both Kingston and Burchill, Austin Aries, has piled up some impressive wins in past weeks: his steel cage and falls-count-anywhere victories over Jimmy Jacobs, the four-corners win at SOH, and his non-title victory over ROH World Champion Chris Hero. This obviously makes him one of the men to beat to become a somebody in ROH ... and reportedly, Bryan Danielson wants a piece of Aries. So does Jimmy Jacobs. Is Aries a dead man walking?
-Steve Corino and BJ Whitmer wrestled to a time limit draw at Supercard Of Honor, which did nothing to settle the #1 contender's dispute. Whitmer's made it known his quest for vengeance and another shot at Hero won't end until he gets what he wants. Tonight, Steve Corino will choose a teammate and get a shot at the new ROH Tag Champs, Matt Sydal & Jack Evans. Who will he choose? And will BJ Whitmer get involved?
-Chris Hero had to pull every underhanded trick to escape Supercard Of Honor with his title intact. Not only did that make Nigel McGuinness angrier, but it earned the attenton of ROH Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch, who reportedly has a very special message for Hero. Could this be the night Hero's world finally comes crashing down?
Plus: The Burning River Brigade, Murderdeathkill, Adam Pearce, Sonny Siaki, Roderick Strong, and more to be announced!
Jed Shaffer ~I can't even begin to express how badly Colt's injury effed up my long-term plans. Thank God for the fast-rising star of Ruckus.

Good stuff, I've been reading ever since you started over at the WC boards like many of the others here.
Also, I'd like to add that your latest Rewriting the Book was true perfection. I almost felt like I was reading it out of a history book. Great work!

Saturday, May 3, 2008:
Email: 1) WWE’s Smackdown got a 4.94 rating. 4) TNA’s TNA Friday got a 0.92 rating.
Results for Throwdown, May 3, 2008:
“Jimmy Bauer here, alongside Dave Prazak, and this is Throwdown! Supercard Of Honor was six days ago, and when it comes to the Ring Of Honor World Title, nothing has been cleared up! Steve Corino has an opportunity tonight for the ROH Tag Titles with the partner of his choosing—who will it be? Kaos wants a match with Ruckus! Bryan Danielson says tonight, he’ll make a statement that will put him squarely in line for a World Title shot! And—and here comes Tammy Lynn Sytch right now! She has a message for ROH World Champion Chris Hero!”
1st segment—Tammy Lynn Sytch has a smile on her face as she enters the ring, the kind of smile a predator has right before they’ve made the pounce on their prey.
“Let me take a moment of your time,” says Sytch, “to remind you all of a few things; namely, the manner in which our illustrious champion, Chris Hero, has managed to keep his World Title. He defeated Colt Cabana in his last available title shot by getting Dan Maff to slam a steel cage door on Cabana’s head. He threw BJ Whitmer off the roof of the Hell In A Cell. He got his buddies to help him take down Masato Tanaka. Just six days ago, he grabbed a handful of tights to pin Nigel McGuinness. That’s not including the myriad other title defenses he’s cheated through, ducked or outright declined.
That ends tonight, Chris Hero. This company is positioned to grow beyond anyone’s wildest dreams, and we cannot have you being the face of this promotion. This company prides itself as one of honor, of promoting pure wrestling and the spirit of competition—not cowardice and malice. I cannot in good conscience allow your reign to continue any longer. So, I have signed a rematch with you against Nigel McGuinness in a submission match at Gut Check … assuming you even get to Gut Check as ROH World Champion. Because starting tonight, Chris Hero, you will live up to the standards and codes that make the foundation of this company, and you will do that by defending your ROH World Championship on each and every show. If you think of no-showing, you’ll be stripped. If your lackeys try to save you, you’ll forfeit the title. If your match ends in a disqualification or count-out, you’ll fight that person again, and again, and again, until either you defeat them by pinfall or submission … or they beat you. It’s as simple as that, Chris Hero. And your first defense is … now.” Segment rating:65%
2nd segment—Chris Hero (c) vs. ?, World Title match: Chris Hero comes to the ring, yelling at Sytch as they pass in the aisle, saying she doesn’t have the right to do what she’s doing. With that, his challenger, Arik Cannon, comes out. Unfortunately, Cannon doesn’t put up much of a fight, and is easily dispatched with the Hero’s Welcome. Nigel McGuinness tries to get the drop on Hero, but Hero catches him and nails the Hero’s Welcome on him as well. ***1/2 Segment rating: 77% Notes: The ROH Title lost image.
3rd segment—Roderick Strong slowly comes down to the ring, favoring his leg. Before he can get into the ring, Sonny Siaki rushes him, beats him down, then drags him to the announce table. “We don’t get hazard pay!” screams Prazak as Siaki positions Strong on the table. Siaki hops up on the apron, leaps and lands on Strong’s leg, collapsing the table and further injuring Strong’s banged-up wheel. Segment rating: 75% Notes: Siaki gained overness.
4th segment—Jigsaw & Puma vs. “Champagne” Kory Chavis & “Hot Tub” Jimmy Rave w/Studio 54: The masked men dazzle with high-flying moves, but the disco dudes are too much for the luchadores. Chavis’ Smooth Operator finisher puts Puma on the mat for three. **1/4 Segment rating: 65%
5th segment—Mike Quackenbush is in the ring. “I won’t be fighting Joey Ryan tonight,” says Quackenbush, “because Ryan ‘missed his flight.’ I think we all know Ryan didn’t miss his flight; he just doesn’t want to get his ass kicked. So, I am out here to ask, not of Joey Ryan, and certainly not of Larry Sweeney, because we know he can’t be trusted … no, I am out here to ask Commissioner Sytch if she will force Ryan’s hand—“
Quack is cut off when “Diamond” Joey Ryan slides in from the crowd and attacks from behind. Ryan gets a quick advantage and nails his Moustache Ride finisher … but as he poses on the ropes, Quack gets up, absolutely unfazed. Ryan rushes, gets the advantage again, and uses the Quackendriver II against Quack, only for Quack to pop right back up. Ryan turns sheet white, jumps over the ropes and heads for higher ground. Segment rating: 55% Notes: Quack gained overness
6th segment—Eddie Kingston vs. Dan Maff: Frustrated with his recent failure to regain the Pure Title, Kingston looks to take out his frustrations on Dan Maff. Maff uses every shortcut in the book to get the advantage, and tries to brutalize Kingston with several attempts of his Burning Hammer on the floor. But Kingston rallies and gets the pin with the Royal Flush. Irate, Maff takes a measure of revenge by pulling out knucks and putting Kingston on dream street. ***1/2 Segment rating: 80%
7th segment—Paul Burchill vs. Tyler Black: Studio 54’s newest member goes head on with Burchill, looking to get back on his winning ways. Unfortunately, Burchill never sees Adam Pearce coming, who trips up Burchill, setting up Black to hit God’s Last Gift. After Burchill is pinned, Pearce puts the boots to Burchill, yelling all the while about sending him back to Connecticut where he belongs **1/2 Segment rating: 71%
8th segment—Kaos vs. Ruckus:“Kaos requested this match,” says Bauer, “because he thinks Ruckus is a fraud, and that he is ROH’s fastest rising star.”
Kaos proves he at least deserves to be mentioned in the same breath, as the two tear down the house in a fantastic, stiff technical match. Ruckus’ speed gives him a little more of an advantage, and when Kaos senses he’s losing steam, he puts his feet on the ropes during a roll-up and scores a tainted 3-count, then quickly runs before Ruckus can get his hands on him. ****1/5 Segment rating: 87%
9th segment—Austin Aries (c) vs. Jimmy Jacobs, Pure Title Texas Deathmatch: One more time, the hated rivals meet, with the title, and their bodily safety on the line. Aries shows more then a willingness to get his hands dirty, using chairs, tables and even a kitchen sink. Jacobs shows just as much bloodlust, and soon, both men are opened up. But the deciding factor for this latest chapter comes down to Bryan Danielson, who assaults Aries, locks in a Cattle Mutilation, then helps Jacobs set up a table for a super-Contra Code. Jacobs gets the pinfall, and Aries is unable to get to his feet for the ten count, giving Jimmy Jacobs the Pure Title once more. Aftewards, Danielson applies the Cattle Mutilation once again, even though Aries is unconscious. Officials break it up and drag Danielson away, even as he yells out the World Title is his. ****1/2 Segment rating: 90% Notes: The Pure Title has gained in image.
10th segment—Murderdeathkill vs. The Burning River Brigade vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. The Briscoes, four-way elimination match: In a wild battle sure to set to clear the air for the ROH Tag Title scene, the BRB are eliminated first by Chris Sabin, pinning Matt Cross on a running senton. A Death Valley Driver by The Messiah puts down Sabin for the three count, leaving perennial rivals MDK and the Briscoes alone. The Briscoes manage to pull off the impossible, scoring a Jay-Driller on The Messiah for the pinfall. “That’s sure to put them next in line for at title shot, after we get through with the main event!” says Prazak. ***3/4 Segment rating: 85%
11th segment—Matt Sydal & Jack Evans vs. Steve Corino & a partner of his choosing, Tag Title match: Corino comes out alone, pausing in the middle of the aisle to await his partner before facing off against the new ROH Tag Champions. To no one’s surprise, his partner is Bryan Danielson. Together, they dismantle the champs with a blur of hardcore offense and technical brilliance; the champs fight back with aerial wizardry, but a superkick by Corino on Evans as he tries to fly kills their comeback. The finish comes when Danielson, in total control anyway, reaches into his tights, puts on a pair of knucks, and blasts Sydal. A pin later, and Ring Of Honor has new Tag Team Champions. Segment rating: 87% Notes: The Tag Titles have gained in image.
Overall rating: 77%
