Yeah, that's a bad habit of mine, also. All my feuds tend to close at the same PPV. Therefore, you end up getting a ONS 07-type ordeal. Though I must admit, my ratings are typically high, so I'm not complaining.

Yeah, that's a bad habit of mine, also. All my feuds tend to close at the same PPV. Therefore, you end up getting a ONS 07-type ordeal. Though I must admit, my ratings are typically high, so I'm not complaining. Well, Siaki/Strong and Quack/Ryan are both minor feuds, and are ready to be ended now, but I figured, with a week left to the PPV, why not give 'em a big PPV blowoff? Jed Shaffer ~"If Siaki wins, I riot." That rules, Comahan.

Preview for Unleashed, May 21, 2008:
- Studio 54 has troubles in every direction. "Hot Tub" Jimmy Rave and "Champagne" Kory Chavis have gotten the attention of the Burning River Brigade; "Malibu" Tyler Black's former partner Arik Cannon wants to tear Black limb from limb. And, of course, "Diamond" Joey Ryan and Mike Quackenbush are set to collide once and for all at Gut Check. On Unleashed, all of these forces will meet in five-person elimination tag match: Studio 54--Ryan, Black, Rave, Chavis and Mickie James--will take on Quackenbush, Cannon, the BRB and a mystery female partner!Who will get momentum going into the PPV weekend?
- The duo of Jack Evans & Matt Sydal are getting into a heated rivalry with the Motor City Machine Guns. Last week, it was Evans and Shelley doing one-on-one battle. This week, Chris Sabin takes on Matt Sydal!
- Adam Pearce was successful in humiliating Paul Burchill last week, albeit he needed the help of the exposed turnbuckle AND his feet on the ropes. This week, the man who claims to be on a mission to "purify" Ring Of Honor from "invaders" will step into the ring with a certified ROH icon: Austin Aries! Aries has been having his own troubles with Bryan Danielson, and Jimmy Jacobs is still a haunting shadow. Can Aries keep his mind on the game, or will Pearce score a HUGE notch in his belt?
- Last week, Roderick Strong signed a waiver to allow him to wrestle again. He will meet Sonny Siaki at Gut Check in an I Quit match. But Siaki may not survive long enough to get there, as he's scheduled to partner with Dan Maff against The Briscoes.
- Bryan Danielson's mouth and his mind games have gotten him into trouble over the past month; his alliance with Steve Corino seems to be nothing more then a tool to leap to the front of the World Title contender's pack. In the process, he's earned the ire of Austin Aries, BJ Whitmer, Ruckus, Murderdeathkill, and the ROH Champion Chris Hero. Tonight, he goes one-on-one with an old rival, the man who will meet Chris Hero at Gut Check, Nigel McGuinness, and his Tag Champion partner Steve Corino will be the special referee! Will Corino show loyalty to Danielson and help his friend get a crucial win? Or has Danielson brought too much trouble down on himself?
- Chris Hero's month-long march of title defenses isn't done, not by a long shot. On Unleashed, he will take on the high-flying Jack Evans!
- The lives of Steve Corino and Chris Hero have become infinitely more difficult since Corino won the ROH Tag Titles. Danielson's fixation on getting a title shot has put more tension on the tenuous relationship between Corino and Hero; Corino has yet to get his guaranteed title shot, which makes tensions worse. And, to top it all off, the #1 contenders to Corino's ROH Tag Titles, the brutally insane Murderdeathkill, were brought into the Exeception To The Rule fold after sending Corino's partner, Bryan Danielson, to the hospital (a move that ruffled the feather of Sonny Siaki and Dan Maff, too)! The rumor mill is churning that one or the other may throw down the gauntlet ... and soon! Could Unleashed be the night that the ETTR finally meets its Waterloo?
Plus: Murderdeathkill, Ruckus, Eddie Kingston, Claudio Castagnoli, El Generico, Brent Albright and BJ Whitmer!
Jed Shaffer ~Boy, these next few months ... MAN, I can't wait to unfold the story.

Loving your main storyline. For some reason I didn't grasp the full impact of the MDK recruitment when reading it. Good stuff.

Thanks, I'm having a lot of fun weaving all these people in and out of the storyline. It promises to get even more tangled as we get closer to the apex of the angle.
And, in the meantime, another huge angle is slowly taking shape, right under your noses. It'll be the next huge main event angle after Hero's title reign finally comes to an end.
Jed Shaffer ~You don't do so bad yourself, ya know. The Prophecy/Punk/Alfonso/Claudio/mystery supporter storyline is pretty damned cool.

Wednesday, May 21, 2008:
Email: 1) WWE got a 3.65 television rating for ECW on Sci-Fi.
Results for Unleashed, May 21, 2008:
“I’m Gary Michael Cappetta, alongside my broadcast partner, Terry Funk, and this is Unleashed! We are four days away from Gut Check, live on pay-per-view! Jack Evans challenges for the ROH World Title tonight, as well as Bryan Danielson taking on Nigel McGuinness, and Steve Corino is the special referee! Terry Funk, what does tonight mean to the wrestlers?”
“Gary, tonight is about momentum. There’s gonna be a bunch of feuds comin’ due at Gut Check; you got Mike Quackenbush and Joey Ryan, Sonny Siaki and Roderick Strong, Steve Corino and BJ Whitmer, and Nigel McGuinness and Chris Hero; tonight, they’re all looking to stay healthy, get momentum and trip up their enemies.”
“And speaking of enemies, let’s go to the ring right now with a new rivalry, the Motor City Machine Guns and Matt Sydal & Jack Evans!”
1st segment—Chris Sabin vs. Matt Sydal: The burgeoning rivalry between the MCMG’s and the duo of Sydal & Evans notches another chapter, as Sabin and Sydal square off in singles competition. The two seem evenly matched, so it is up to Alex Shelley to help out his partner win, braining Sydal with a chair to set up a Cradle Shock. Jack Evans comes out and saves his partner from any further damage. ***3/4 Segment rating: 84%
2nd segment—Cameras get into the locker room of the Exception To The Rule just as ETTR leader Chris Hero is finishing a rally speech. The membership stands up and files out until Hero tells Corino to stay behind.
“Steve, we need to talk.” Hero sidles up next to Corino, puts his arm around Corino’s shoulders and gets chummy. “Steve, six months ago, when I convinced you to sign full-time with ROH and to join the Exception, I did so because I saw what caliber of talent you are. You’ve been a world champ almost everywhere you’ve been: MLW, AWA, NWA, ECW … that’s the kind of man I need on my side, to help mold the young guys like Kaos and Sonny and MDK. They need your guidance, your wisdom to help turn them from the unpolished rocks they are to pristine diamonds.”
Corino grabs Hero’s arm, pulls it off his shoulders, steps back to look Hero in the eye and crosses his arms. “Get to the point, Chris.”
“What I need from you, that can’t happen if you’re distracted with the Tag Titles, and Bryan Danielson, and this whole #1 contendership nonsense. I need your concentration. I need your dedication.” Hero sighs. “I need you to drop those belts and end your partnership with Danielson, so we can focus on the task at hand.”
“You want me to purposefully lose the titles.”
“Well, not in so many words, Steve, but … come on. Tag Titles? The WORLD Title? I think everybody knows where the big money is. Danielson’s not even in the Exception, so you guys holding the titles isn’t doing me and my championship reign any good.”
“Wait, Chris, I thought you needed me in the Exception to help the young guys, not to help you keep your title.”
“Why can’t it be both?”
Corino deadpans, shakes his head and says; “I am not dropping the titles on purpose so I can be your mindless lackey, Chris. This conversation’s over.” Corino goes to leave, but Hero grabs his shoulder, turns him around and shoves him against the nearby wall.
“You need to make a choice, Steve,” says Hero. “Danielson or the Exception. I’ve been patient, and I think I deserve an answer.”
Corino shoves Hero away, then slowly advances on him. Hero stumbles back and falls on his ass when he trips backwards over the bench. “Not so brave without your lackeys, are ya, Chris? You need to understand a couple things, Hero; I will not be treated like some pissant soldier in your personal army. I will not respond to your threats, unless it’s to slap the taste out of your mouth. You understand, boy?” Corino turns to leave, then turns back at the door. “One more thing, Chris. YOU need to make a choice: when are you gonna grow the stones to finally step into the ring with me?” Corino walks out the door, slamming it behind him.
Segment rating: 79%
3rd segment—Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright vs. El Generico, three-way elimination match: “These here are three men who are looking for an opportunity to make a name for themselves, Gary,” says Funk as the three wrestlers square off. “With Survival Of The Fittest coming up next month, the winner of this match could become a favorite to win it.”
First fall: The much smaller Generico, still not quite adapted to the singles game with the absence of his partner, is rocked and reeled by the two much larger men. A wicked half-nelson suplex by Albright sends Generico back to the showers.
Second fall: Claudio and Albright trade stiff hits and try to out-muscle each other. In the end, Claudio scores by dodging a lariat attempt and turning it into a Ricola Bomb for the three count. **1/4 Segment rating: 67%
4th segment—Adam Pearce vs. Austin Aries: “Do you think Adam Pearce resents Austin Aries for having spent time in TNA, or is he just making up excuses to bully Paul Burchill?” asks Cappetta as the two lock up. Aries, the wily veteran, reverses a piledriver attempt into a back bodydrop, quickly scales the turnbuckle and nails the 450 to finish off the “Scrap Daddy”. As Pearce lays on the mat, dazed at the turn of events, Paul Burchill runs down, climbs up the turnbuckle on Pearce’s blind side, takes flight and drives the point of his elbow into Pearce’s heart. Aries has to pull Burchill off Pearce before Burchill loses his cool. **1/4 Segment rating: 78%
5th segment—Murderdeathkill vs. Ruckus & Eddie Kingston: The crowd chants “CZW” as the four men square off, a demand for the carnage they know all four are capable of. The ref eventually has to let the rulebook fly, as none of the four are content in the ring or with simple wrestling, but he has to throw it out when Dan Maff and Kaos interject. MDK resents the interference by their stablemates and the situation turns into a six-man donnybrook that requires officials to break up. ***3/4 Segment rating: 84%
6th segment—Backstage, Rebecca Bayless catches up with BJ Whitmer and asks him his thoughts with only four days left to Gut Check.
“My thoughts, Rebecca, are on one man: Chris Hero. You see, I don’t have to worry about Steve Corino. I’ve beaten Steve Corino before. I beat him last October, on the third episode of Throwdown. I beat him in a no-holds-barred match last November on Throwdown, the week after Respect Is Earned. I beat him again in December, the week after Vendetta. My record against Corino speaks for itself; time and time again, I’ve pinned his shoulders to the mat. This Sunday, special guest referee? Relaxed rules? Don’t care. Corino can say he respects me, he can shake hands with opponents, it doesn’t matter; he associates with scum, so he is scum. My goal this Sunday is to get rid of Steve Corino once and for all, so I can get my hands on Chris Hero. He’s due one son of a bitch of a receipt for tossing me off the roof of the cell in February, and the way I figure it, at Survival Of The Fittest, that’d be a damn good time to give him his payback. Corino, you’re a tough man, and I won’t take that away from you … but you’re in my way. I’ve beaten you before, and I’ll beat you again. I have to. I need to. Chris Hero tried to end my career. I cannot rest until I do no less for him.”
Segment rating: 84%
7th segment—Sonny Siaki & Dan Maff vs. The Briscoes: Two of Exception To The Rule’s youngest and finest try their hands at the multiple-time ROH World Tag Team Champions, but the brothers Briscoe are too much; Siaki ends up clocking Maff, and in the chaos, Jay Briscoe is able to nail the Jay Driller for the three-count. Roderick Strong watches from the stage, clapping the brothers on the shoulder and taunting Siaki as he struggles to deal with the humiliating loss. **** Segment rating: 85%
8th segment—Studio 54 (Ryan, Rave, Chavis, Black & James) w/Larry Sweeney vs. Mike Quackenbush, Arik Cannon, The Burning River Brigade & ?, elimination tag match: “Sweet & Sour” Larry Sweeney leads Studio 54 to the ring, ready for action. “Folks,” says Larry, “I can’t wait to see this mystery woman Mike Quackenbush has been able to dig up. You know why? He ain’t got one! How many women are in this company? Three: the luscious, the vivacious, Mickie James … that crazy chick that hangs out with the guy who wears all the eyeliner … and then there’s that slut Austin Aries—and God knows who else--is banging. He ain’t gonna get the crazy chick, and Lacey’s too busy getting filled out like a job application. He’s got nobody. And if he can’t get anyone, he forfeits! So come on out, Mikey. Come on out and forfeit! Look like a chump up against Studio 54 yet again!”
Quackenbush leads his team to the ring, and much to Sweeney’s visible dismay, he does have a woman on his team: Beth Phoenix, who hadn’t been seen in over 6 months in Ring Of Honor.
First elimination: Studio 54 goes up 5-4 when “Champagne” Kory Chavis almost kicks Josh Prohibition’s jaw clean off his head with a superkick for the three-count.
Second elimination: Studio 54 uses distraction so “Malibu” Tyler Black can provide the assist to Mickie James in pinning Beth Phoenix. 5-3 in favor of Studio 54.
Third elimination: When she realizes she’s now stuck facing men, Mickie runs away as Quackenbush steps in the ring; being counted out moves the tally to 4-3.
Fourth elimination: Tyler Black sends Matt Cross to join his partner thanks to a Stratusfaction (!), putting Studio 54 up 4-2.
Fifth elimination: Sweeney gets involved, trying to reach in to yank on Quackenbush’s feet as he bounces off the ropes, but Quack reverses on “Hot Tub” Jimmy Rave, and Rave’s face bounces off the mat. A Quackendriver kills Rave dead, for a 3-2 ratio.
Sixth elimination: Tyler Black and Joey Ryan get their wires crossed on a double-team; Ryan gets clotheslined outside by Quack, and Arik Cannon, the intended victim of the double-team, nails his former partner with the Glimmering Warlock for the three count, evening up the sides at 2.
Seventh elimination: Cannon gets two eliminations in a row, as he puts Kory Chavis’ shoulders on the mat with a tiger bomb, leaving Joey Ryan alone.
Eighth elimination: Arik Cannon charges Ryan, but Ryan moves, and the ref gets taken out. Joey hits the Mustache Ride, but the ref is still dazed, and can’t make the count. Sweeney comes in to wake up the ref, but the ref, not seeing who is pulling him up, shoves Sweney, who bumps into Ryan. Ryan is dazed enough for Cannon to bust out the Glimmering Warlock, and makes the cover for a third consecutive pin, and the victory for his team. Final Survivors: Arik Cannon and Mike Quackenbush. ** Segment rating: 66%
9th segment—When Mike Quackenbush gets back to his locker room, Mickie James is waiting for him. She tells him how impressed she was with his performance, and that she’s tired of being Studio 54’s token girl. With that, Joey Ryan busts through the door and blasts Quack in the head with a chair. Segment rating: 56%
10th segment—Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness, w/special referee Steve Corino: “Corino’s had a difficult night,” says Cappetta. “Hero tried to give him an ultimatum, Whitmer dissed him as easy pickings …”
“And Bryan Danielson’s been going into business for himself since they won those belts,” adds Funk. “You gotta know Corino isn’t happy that Danielson’s trying to leapfrog over him to get a title shot.”
But before Corino can ring the bell, the music of Stone Temple Pilots hits, ushering in BJ Whitmer. He stands on the stage, dressed in his wrestling gear. “I see right now two guys I know I can beat, and the next ROH Champion,” says Whitmer. “You know what I don’t see? Me, in that ring, kicking ass like I should be. So why don’t you toss your zebra stripes aside, Corino, and we’ll have a little tag match? It don’t even have to be for those belts, boys. Just gimme the chance to kick your ass a couple days early.”
Before Corino can say anything, Danielson gestures for Whitmer to step on up. Whitmer charges the ring, leading to …
10th segment—Bryan Danielson & Steve Corino vs. Nigel McGuinness & BJ Whitmer: Despite their issues, Danielson and Corino function better as a team then McGuinness and Whitmer, who never get on the same page. In the end, their miscommunication costs them, as McGuinness gets caught with an elbow as Whitmer is swinging wildly to nail Danielson; Corino is able to capitalize, hitting the distracted Whitmer with the Old School Expulsion for three. As Danielson and Corino celebrate, and as Whitmer and McGuinness argue about their failure, Austin Aries flies out of the locker room and takes down Danielson. Corino and Whitmer pull Aries off Danielson, while Nigel blockades Danielson in a corner. The two yell and scream and kick and punch, trying to get to each other until officials escort them to the back separately. ***1/2 Segment rating: 85%
11th segment—Chris Hero (c) vs. Jack Evans, ROH World Title match: “This is a chance of a lifetime,” says Cappetta as Evans steps into the ring. “This young man has the opportunity to do what even former champions have been unable to do: stop Chris Hero’s title reign. Is this youngster ready?”
Funk comes back with: “Tommy Rich … Ron Garvin … Diesel … Eddie Guerrero … Mikey Whipwreck … champions, all, Gary Cappetta. Nobody thought they were ready, until they got the chance to step up to the plate. Don’t be surprised if Jack Evans hits a home run tonight.”
Evans wrestles the match of a lifetime, and has several near-falls on the champ, but Evans strikes out in the end, as the veteran (and veteran cheater) Hero comes prepared with brass knuckles that neither the ref nor Evans see. And when Nigel McGuinness comes down to the ring to get himself a jump on his opponent in four days, he gets the knucks between the eyes just like Evans. Unleashed ends with Hero standing tall, two unconscious men on either side, motioning to the camera for someone to bring it. ***3/4 Segment rating: 82%
Overall rating: 77%
Thursday, May 22, 2008:

1% of PI was gained (total: 62%).

Saturday, May 24, 2008:
Email: 1) WWE got a 4.92 television rating for Smackdown. 2) TNA got a 0.89 television rating for TNA Friday. 3) CMLL have fallen to Cult level. 4) CMLL have released Heavy Metal and Virus. 5) CMLL have fired staff members Josh Matthews, Jack Doan, Lowell Weicker Jr., Vinny Perry, Doyle Biehn, and Harvey Wippleman.
Results for Throwdown, May 24, 2008:
“Ring Of Honor is 24 hours away from Gut Check live on pay-per-view! Hi, I’m Jimmy Bauer, alongside my broadcast partner, Mike Johnson, and this is Throwdown, live, on Gut Check weekend! The World Champion, Chris Hero, is still required to defend the ROH World Title, and he will do so tonight against Roderick Strong! Will Strong’s leg become a factor? Let’s go to the ring for our opening bout!”
1st segment—Claudio Castagnoli vs. Dan Maff: Claudio continues his recent roll by scoring a clean submission victory over Dan Maff with the Helvetique Clutch. Afterwards, Claudio takes to the microphone and announces he has signed Jimmy Jacobs’ open contract for Gut Check for a shot at the Pure Title. As he leaves the ring, Eddie Kingston comes into the ring from the crowd and whips Maff with a belt until security pulls him away. **1/4 Segment rating: 69%
2nd segment—Steve Corino gets in the ring, microphone in hand.
“You know, I look forward to tomorrow,” says Corino. “I look forward to proving to everyone why I’m the #1 contender … and to reminding BJ Whitmer I’m not a man to be overlooked. I’ve dealt with you straight-up, Whitmer, even when I came at you from behind or sucker-punched you, I never assumed you’d do anything but give as good as you got. Your words last week showed that—“
Whitmer runs out and gets nose to nose with Corino. The two exchange heated words, which turn to fisticuffs. Whitmer ducks a clothesline and turns it into the Wrist Clutch Exploder, but Corino pops back up, scaring Whitmer half to death. Whitmer drops out of the ring, eyeing his opponent tomorrow with newly cautious eyes. Segment rating: 85%
3rd segment—Mike Quackenbush vs. “Malibu” Tyler Black: “Mike Quackenbush requested this match, Mike Johnson. Why? Why risk potential injury at the hands of Studio 54?”
“Because Mike Quackenbush is a competitor, Jimmy Bauer.”
And Quack proves it, taking on Black and, when she gets involved, Mickie James. James’ errant chairshot nails Black in the back, allowing Quack to set up the Quackendriver for the pinfall victory. Quack adds insult to injury by catching James, bending her over his knee and tanning her backside a couple times before tossing her out of the ring. **3/4 Segment rating: 68%
4th segment—As Mike Quackenbush basks in the glory of his victory, “Diamond” Joey Ryan runs down and breaks a disco ball over Quack’s head. With Quack bleeding from the broken glass, Ryan drags him out to the announce table and puts him through it with the Quackendriver. Ryan disco dances in the ring as medics and trainers rush to check on Quackenbush. Segment rating: 71% Note: Quackenbush gained overness.
5th segment—Jimmy Jacobs (c) w/Lisa Marie Jacobs vs. Arik Cannon vs. El Generico, Pure Title triangle match: Jimmy Jacobs gets a tune-up for his match with Claudio Castagnoli, pinning El Generico with the Contra Code. Afterwards, Jacobs broods in the corner, looking at the Pure Title with disgust. **1/4 Segment rating: 69% Note: The Pure Title lost image.
6th segment—Cameras catch up with Sonny Siaki in the locker room.
“Hey, Roddy … I know you got the inspirational story of the year going on … I cripple you, you get the commish to let you wrestle on a bum wheel … too bad this ain’t the Lifetime channel. Oh, wait, you are a complete pussy, so maybe it is! Well, the fact of the matter is, come tomorrow … well, you know the old saying about a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest?” Siaki smiles and tosses a towel over the camera lens to end the interview. Segment rating: 76% Note: Siaki gained overness.
7th segment—Studio 54 (“Hot Tub” Jimmy Rave & “Champagne” Kory Chavis) vs. Jigsaw & Puma: With a big 8-person tag match in 24 hours, Studio 54 show why they are becoming a sensation—even if they’re reviled—in Ring Of Honor, as they dismantle the two masked high-fliers. Afterwards, Rave and Chavis put the boots to Jigsaw and Puma to reinforce their dominance. ** Segment rating: 66%
8th segment—Rebecca Bayless catches up with Austin Aries backstage.
“Tomorrow may be the biggest match in my career, Rebecca. Bryan Danielson wants to cripple me to make a point, to show the world he deserves a Ring Of Honor World Title shot. He wants to put his name at the top, written in my blood. I think tomorrow, Bryan Danielson, you and the whole world may see a new side of Austin Aries. Because I’ll be damned if I let some piss-ass, manipulative, pasty-faced punk like you use me to make their mark. I didn’t take it from Jimmy Jacobs, and I sure as hell ain’t taking it from you.” Segment rating: 78%
9th segment—BJ Whitmer vs. Bryan Danielson: The collision of Whitmer and Danielson turns into a violent brawl, with both men busted open from liberal use of the ringside area, the ringposts and the barricade. Whitmer stands up out of the Cattle Mutilation, and turns it into the Wrist Clutch Exploder, but before he can pin Danielson, Steve Corino runs out, pulls Whitmer out of the ring and jabs him in the already-open forehead with a fork. The ref signals for the DQ as Corino stabs until Whitmer isn’t moving. Satisfied, Corino walks away. ***1/2 Segment rating: 85%
10th segment—Backstage, Nigel McGuinness is in his locker room.
“Chris Hero … Bryan Danielson had to knock me out with elbows. Samoa Joe couldn’t choke me out. I passed out before I would tap out to Jimmy Rave. I don’t quit, Chris Hero. I never have, and nothing about that is changing tomorrow night. I know you’re afraid, Chris Hero. You’re deathly afraid. You should be.” Segment rating: 81%
11th segment—Chris Hero (c) vs. Roderick Strong, ROH World Title match: Despite a limp, Strong puts on the performance of a lifetime, one columnists and fans refer to as a “coming out party” for Strong. Unfortunately, Strong falls victim to temptation as he manages to stop Hero from using brass knuckles and uses them himself. He pins Hero, but a second referee informs the assigned ref of Strong’s use of the knucks, and the decision is reversed, giving Hero the win by DQ. Strong, irate, goes to grab Hero, but the champ rolls out, not wanting any more punishment then he already endured. ****1/2 Segment rating: 88%
Overall rating: 77%
Jed Shaffer ~Yeah, I know the show was filler. If I didn't need to get one or two more bits in on a couple feuds, I woulda auto-booked it. The PPV's next, though!

Email: 1) Dan Maff didn’t think he and Claudio clicked. 2) Jigsaw wants to be promoted from lower-midcard to midcard (promotion was granted). 3) We won the head-to-head with Main Event TV in the ratings. 4) We got a 2.74 rating for Throwdown. 5) HWA got a 0.78 television rating for Main Event TV.
1% of PI was gained (total PI: 63%).
Results for Gut Check, May 25, 2008:
Dark match—Paul Burchill vs. Brent Albright vs. Adam Pearce vs. Jigsaw, four-corner survival match: Burchill manages to prove adaptable to Ring Of Honor’s trademark four-corners survival matches, pinning Albright in the warm up match. **1/4 Segment rating: 69%
“This is Ring Of Honor, live on pay-per-view, and this is Gut Check! Good evening, thank you for purchasing the event. I’m Jimmy Bauer, and with me tonight—well, for most of the matches, at any rate—is Terry Funk! Normally, Ring Of Honor is about pride and workmanship and the best wrestling, but tonight, Terry Funk, is right up your alley, as most of the grudge matches are violent as all hell!”
“An I Quit match … a submission match … a street fight … and then, you got me refereeing, and I piss on rulebooks! Tonight, Jimmy, if someone don’t leave on a stretcher, well, I’ll kiss that egg-sucking bastard Ric Flair’s mother!”
“Couldn’t have said it better myself, Terry. Let’s throw it down to the ring for our opening match!”
1st segment—Arik Cannon, Beth Phoenix & The Burning River Brigade vs. Studio 54 (Black, Rave, Chavis & James) w/Larry Sweeney: The referee is barely able to contain order, as people go flying and fighting everywhere in this 8-person match. The end comes down to Cannon and Black, and Cannon blocks Black’s finisher and pulls off a Glimmering Warlock to get another pinfall on Black. *1/2 Segment rating: 65%
2nd segment—Jimmy Jacobs (c) w/Lisa Marie Jacobs vs. Claudio Castagnoli, ROH Pure Title match: Before the match, Jacobs grabs a microphone.
“The hatred in my heart,” says Jacobs, “the blackness in my soul … I feel no bottom for the well of disdain I have for you, the Ring Of Honor fans … or for Austin Aries … or for life itself. Life is a tainted, cancerous wasteland, and so is Ring Of Honor. For them to try and parade around this title, calling it ‘Pure’ when they cannot even hold a pay-per-view without a parade of carnage and bloodshed is an affront to humanity. And so, it is my responsibility to inform the world that I will no longer defend this title if this company cannot even pretend with a straight face to exemplify the virtues of purity. Henceforth, this title shall be defended in the spirit in which this promotion seems to truly have dived into head-first: that of Ultraviolence. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the first defense of Ring Of Honor’s Ultraviolent Championship.”
Unprepared for the change in rules, Claudio gets caught off guard, as Jacobs rushes him with a metal spike he pulls out of his tights. Claudio does his best to fight back, trying to use his size and strength advantage to stop Jacobs, but Jacobs’ bloodlust is too much, and gets a tap-out victory with a new finisher, The End Times, a DDT that turns into a guillotine choke. **1/4 Segment rating: 74%
3rd segment—Mike Quackenbush vs. “Diamond” Joey Ryan w/Larry Sweeney, Iron Man match: Quackenbush, sore from the previous night’s carnage, drops two falls quickly to Ryan, after a superplex and a Mustache Ride. But Ryan hands Quack a decision when he decides to use a chair, and from there on, Quack fights back, scoring two pinfalls on a Quackendriver and a top-rope hurricanrana to win their match 3-2, and to win the feud. *3/4 Segment rating: 65% Note: Ryan lost overness from the match, but gained from the feud ending. Quack gained overness from both the match and the feud ending.
4th segment—Eddie Kingston & Ruckus vs. Kaos & Dan Maff, street fight: From the first minute, the rulebook is tossed, as they all go for weapons to try and bloody each other. But of particular disturbance are Kingston and Maff, as they go past steel chairs and tables, and go for forks, barbed wire, and in one gruesome instance, a cinder block that is broken over Maff’s head. But Kingston and Ruckus’ miscommunication costs them, as Kingston causes Ruckus to crotch himself on the turnbuckle as he’s preparing for an elbow drop. Maff manages to detain Kingston long enough for Kaos to hit the Falling Star on Ruckus and score the three-count. But the fight continues into the audience and into the parking lot. **3/4 Segment rating: 76%
5th segment—Roderick Strong vs. Sonny Siaki, I Quit match: Despite the bum wheel, and despite the beating he took the night before, Strong comes out with every gun a’blazing. Siaki does everything he can to weaken Strong’s leg, but Strong keeps getting up. Siaki even tries brutality, using some of the barbed wire from the previous match, to whip Strong into quitting, but Strong refuses. Siaki tries to knock out Strong by going for a diving headbutt from the top rope, with a chair laid out over Strong’s head; instead, Strong uses the chair to stop Siaki’s momentum, batters Siaki with the chair relentlessly for over sixty seconds, then applies the Stronghold. Having tasted it before, Siaki refuses to tap again … until Strong drags him across the ring and positions Siaki’s chest on the barbed wire, and re-applies the hold. With the barbs piercing him, Siaki has no choice but to quit. Afterwards, both men bleeding and hurting, Siaki offers a handshake, and Strong accepts. *** Segment rating: 79% Notes: Siaki lost overness on the match. Both men gained overness from the feud ending.
6th segment—Austin Aries vs. Bryan Danielson: Both men show a mean-streak a mile wide as they unload every stiff kick, every severe drop and suplex, and bend the rules as far as the ref will let them. In the end, Aries gets the win with three brainbusters in a row, followed up by the 450. But as he stands over Danielson’s body, Jacobs comes from behind, spins Aries around and gouges him in the forehead with the spike. ***3/4 Segment rating: 90%
7th segment—Steve Corino vs. BJ Whitmer, special referee Terry Funk: “If you’ll excuse me,” says Funk, leaving the announce table, “I have a rulebook to piss on.”
Funk does just that, letting Corino and Whitmer get everything out of their system and then some. In the end, Corino wins with the Old School Expulsion, clean as a sheet, to reverse a long history of not being able to beat Whitmer. When Funk checks on the bleeding Whitmer, Whitmer pushes him away and goes to leave, only for Corino to call him back and ask for a handshake. Grudgingly, Whitmer comes back, shakes Corino’s hand once, then walks away, frustrated with himself. ***** Segment rating: 99% Notes: Whitmer lost overness from both the match and the feud ending. Corino gained overness from the feud ending.
8th segment—Chris Hero (c) vs. Nigel McGuinness, ROH World Title submission match: McGuinness zeroes in on several of Hero’s body parts, trying to kill his mobility with targeted strikes to the legs, and trying to neutralize Hero’s cravate with shots to the arms. But Hero takes a different approach, trying to wear McGuinness to the point of exhaustion. Hero’s strategy proves the better one, as when he puts on the Hangman’s Clutch in the middle of the ring, McGuinness has nowhere to go. But, true to his word, McGuinness never taps; the ref has to call it when the tough-as-nails Brit passes out. Hero quickly bolts as soon as the ref gives him his belt, as Nigel starts to stir. ****1/4 Segment rating: 90% Notes: Hero gained overness from the feud ending. Nigel gained overness from both the feud ending and the match.
Overall rating: 80%

Preview for Unleashed, May 28, 2008: - At Gut Check, the wars between Kaos & Ruckus and Eddie Kingston & Dan Maff escalated after their bloody street fight. The situation especially got out of hand between Kingston and Maff, after Kingston threw Maff head-first through the window of a car in the parking lot! On Unleashed, they'll trade off opponents: Kingston vs. Kaos, and Maff vs. Ruckus! - Arik Cannon led his team to victory at Gut Check, pinning his old partner, "Malibu" Tyler Black. Cannon will be facing Black's Studio 54 buddy, "Diamond" Joey Ryan, who's coming off a humiliating loss to Mike Quackenbush at Gut Check. Is Cannon outnumbered? - Austin Aries beat Bryan Danielson decisively at Gut Check, but was attacked by Jimmy Jacobs. Jacobs seems bent on making Aries' life a living hell once again, something Bryan Danielson has been doing a good job of lately. Can Aries fight them both off, or will one of them punch in Aries' ticket? - After besting BJ Whitmer at Gut Check, what will Steve Corino do? Is his World Title shot on the horizon? What of his partnership with Bryan Danielson, and his membership in the Exception To The Rule? - Chris Hero will defend the World Title again, this time against Roderick Strong, who only lost by a reverse decision. Strong is vowing not to make the same mistake he did last time. Could the red-hot Strong, just coming off a hellacious I Quit match with Sonny Siaki, be the next ROH World Champion? Plus: The Briscoes, Murderdeathkill, Adam Pearce, Sonny Siaki, Jimmy Jacobs, Lisa Marie Jacobs, Lacey, Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, The Burning River Brigade, Studio 54, Matt Sydal, Alex Shelley, and Mike Quackenbush! Jed Shaffer ~Let's sink another nail in the E's coffin! ... ;D

Wednesday, May 28, 2008: Email:1) WWE got a 3.65 television rating for ECW on Sci-Fi. Results for Unleashed, May 28, 2008: “This is Unleashed, Ring Of Honor’s Wednesday destination for the best in professional Wrestling! I’m Gary Michael Cappetta, alongside by partner, Terry Funk, and tonight, it’s the fallout from Gut Check and the build-up to Survival Of The Fittest!” “That’s right, Gary. Roderick Strong gets another shot at the ROH World Title tonight, Jimmy Jacobs is gonna defend his Ultraviolent Title, Steve Corino’s penciled in for Survival Of The Fittest, and--” “Terry, I don’t mean to interrupt, but we have word the Commissioner of Ring Of Honor has an announcement. Let’s throw it over to Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch!” 1st segment—ROH Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch is seated at her desk, hands folded primly on the desktop, the very model of a professional woman. “Tonight, I am pleased to make several very notable announcements in regards to Survival Of The Fittest, which is scheduled to happen live, on pay-per-view, on June 29th. The first is that the match that we had intended on delivering last night and were unable to due to scheduling conflicts will now, in fact, take place: at Survival Of The Fittest, Pro Wrestling NOAH and Zero-One will collide in a Ring Of Honor ring, as Takeshi Morishima will face Masato Tanaka!” The crowd roars in response. “Secondly, beginning next week on Unleashed, qualifying matches will begin for entry into the Survival Of The Fittest tournament. This year, the tournament will have four one-on-one matches that will happen at the event, immediately followed by a four-way elimination match; the winner of that match will receive a guaranteed ROH World Title shot at their discretion! Third, tomorrow, I will be conducting meetings with both Ring Of Honor’s upper management regarding the main event of Survival Of The Fittest. It is my intention to deliver on the promise made two months ago, and book Steve Corino for an ROH World Title shot on June 29th. I will have definitive word on Throwdown. And finally, what may be the most dramatic of the announcements: next week, live, on Unleashed, you will see history made in Ring Of Honor. Never before has Ring Of Honor been host to such an event, and it will happen, for free, on Unleashed. 10 men … two rings … one steel cage. That’s right, next week, five of Ring Of Honor’s finest will take on five members of Exception To The Rule … in WarGames! Thank you and good night.” Segment rating: 73% 2nd segment—Adam Pearce & Sonny Siaki vs. The Briscoes:Despite being on the same team, Pearce and Siaki show no cohesion, while the brothers dissect the Exception To The Rule duo. Siaki holds Mark Briscoe in place for a punch, but Mark ducks, and Siaki takes the fist to the jaw. Jay Briscoe tosses Pearce, while Mark nails the Cut-Throat Suplex for the three. As Pearce reads Siaki the riot act for “screwing up”, Paul Burchill comes from behind, spins Pearce around and plants Pearce with the C4. Burchill looks at Siaki for a moment; Siaki makes no movement whatsoever as Burchill walks away. ***1/2 Segment rating: 73% 3rd segment—Matt Sydal vs. Alex Shelley:Another in the series of mix-and-match match-ups between the duos finds Sydal and Shelley going one-on-one. This time, the tempers get too heated, and the ref gets shoved to the mat by both men, prompting a double-DQ. Sydal and Shelley brawl until they’ve disappeared behind the curtain. *** Segment rating: 72% 4th segment—Arik Cannon vs. “Diamond” Joey Ryan:“Arik Cannon has started to make a name for himself since Tyler Black ditched him for Larry Sweeney’s big money promises,” says Cappetta. “Can he measure up against Studio 54’s captain?” “Right now, the only member of Studio 54 who doesn’t have egg on their face is Mickie James,” says Funk, “so don’t be so sure Joey Ryan’s the sun, the moon and the stars.” Cannon puts on a world class showing, displaying outstanding mat skills that ground Ryan’s air game. Ryan makes key mistakes, showing the frustration from Sunday still isn’t out of his system … but he doesn’t have to worry, as “Malibu” Tyler Black provides the key assist to allow Ryan to hide the Mustache Ride. Black makes sure Cannon knows who cost him the match by putting the boots to him afterwards as the crowd rains down with disappointment. *** Segment rating: 64% 5th segment—Austin Aries enters the ring, looking tired but proud. “This past year has been a living hell for Austin Aries,” he says. “First, it was getting out of other commitments so I could commit 100% to Ring Of Honor. Once I did that, Jimmy Jacobs decided to start terrorizing me. Now, I got Bryan Danielson. You know what they have in common? I beat both their asses. I beat Jimmy, and at Gut Check, I beat Danielson. I beat him straight up, no BS, a three-count in the middle of the ring. You tried, Bryan Danielson, and you failed.” “Oh, you proved nothing,” says Danielson, stepping out onto the stage. “Except that, on any given night, anybody can have a lucky night. Hell, Barry Horowitz beat Chris Candido three times. So you beat me. Big deal. Doesn’t change the facts; I held the ROH World Title longer then you, I’ve been with the company longer then you … hell, I never tried to bail for Orlando. I turned down their offers. You call me an opportunist? Who came crawling back when Joe and Homicide and Chris Daniels took the big money in Florida? I’ve been here.” “Yeah, sitting on your ass, trying to use other people’s miseries to springboard your career while you piss on the legacy of the Ring Of Honor Tag Titles. I held those titles and defended them proudly. How many defenses you got to your credit? Oh, yeah—none. Cause you’re afraid. You were afraid of me, so you came after me when I was tired and weak after fighting with Jimmy Jacobs. And you’re afraid now, cause you know you can’t hang with real tag teams. You just want the belt as a trophy.” “Find a partner, chump. Find a partner, and me and my partner will come down to the ring right now and prove to you why we’re the best team in the country.” Steve Corino comes out and, off-microphone, tries to talk to Danielson, but Danielson listens to none of it and marches to the ring. Corino reluctantly follows. “Come on, Austin!” taunts Danielson. “Find a partner!” “He doesn’t have to find one. I’ll step up right now!” says a voice from the stage. The voice steps through the curtain; it’s BJ Whitmer. “Austin, let’s kick some ass!” Segment rating: 78% 6th segment—Bryan Danielson & Steve Corino (c) vs. Austin Aries & BJ Whitmer, ROH Tag Titles match:The ref has a hard time getting the participants to adhere to the tag rules, and finally gives up on it, letting the foursome duke it out. Inside the ring, through the crowd, the action goes everywhere as the two duos battle it out for the titles. Danielson manages to float over on a brainbuster attempt, takes Aries down to the mat, lays in with the MMA elbows and then applies the Cattle Mutilation … but at the same time, BJ Whitmer catches a Corino superkick, spins Corino around, nails the Wrist Clutch Exploder, and pins Corino. Before Aries can submit, the ref counts the pinfall. But before the celebration can begin, Murderdeathkill comes out, brandishing chairs, which they use on everyone they see, including the ref. Every trainer and ROH training school student is needed to get MDK out of the ring and to help the five unconscious men out of the ring. ***1/2 Segment rating: 76% NEW TAG CHAMPIONS: AUSTIN ARIES & BJ WHITMER7th segment—Eddie Kingston vs. Kaos:Kingston and Kaos throw down with reckless abandon and no concern for their own safety as they try and send a message to their respective enemies in the back. But Ruckus decides to send a message of his own, by coming out and nailing Kaos with the Hate Crime, giving Kingston the pinfall victory. Dan Maff comes out and takes out Kingston, but Ruckus jumps him from behind, and their match begins immediately. **1/2 Segment rating: 66% Notes: Kingston gained overness. 8th segment—Ruckus vs. Dan Maff:Ruckus and Maff don’t get much of a legal fight, as they skip over wrestling and go right for the hardcore stuff. Within a matter of minutes, the ref has no choice but to throw out the match. Afterwards, Kingston gives Maff a receipt by braining him with a chair. **3/4 Segment rating: 67% 9th segment—Beth Phoenix & Lacey vs. Mickie James & Lisa Marie Jacobs:It doesn’t take long for Mickie James to get back-up from her Studio 54 friends; Kory Chavis trip up Beth Phoenix, allowing Mickie to get the pin. But the Burning River Brigade come out to make the save, sending the disco lovers packing. ½* Segment rating: 56% 10th segment—Jimmy Jacobs (c) w/Lisa Marie Jacobs vs. Mike Quackenbush, ROH Ultraviolent Title hardcore match:Having seen Jacobs the night before, Quack comes into the match prepared. But Jacobs shows more of his depths of depravity, rendering Quack unconscious by putting a steel chair on his face and using a sledgehammer on it, then follows it up with The End Times. The ref stops the match in favor of Jacobs. *** Segment rating: 68% 11th segment—Chris Hero (c) vs. Roderick Strong, ROH World Title match:If their previous match less than a week before was a coming-out party, this match is the exclamation point for Roderick Strong in Ring Of Honor, with wicked mat wrestling and stiff blows on both sides of the ring. This time, Strong just gets caught by surprise with the Hero’s Welcome and pinned, but the crowd gives him a standing ovation. The moment is ruined, though, when Jimmy Jacobs comes out, stabs Strong in the forehead with a metal spike, and applies The End Times as the blood pours out of Strong’s head. ****3/4 Segment rating: 81% Overall rating: 71% Thursday, May 29, 2008: Email:1) Adam Pearce wants to be promoted to the main event. 2) Road agents say Matt Sydal and Alex Shelley didn’t click in their match. 3) Mickie James thinks partnering regularly with Lisa Marie Jacobs would be beneficial to their career. 4) Beth Phoenix wants to be promoted. 5) We got a 2.63 rating for Unleashed, with 2007 attending for $60210. 1% of PI was gained (total: 68%). Friday, May 30, 2008: Email:1) TNA got a 6.10 television rating for TNA iMPACT!. ________________________________________ Preliminary PPV card for

Breaking news from the ROH Newswire!
ROHwrestling.com has learned that the meeting between ROH Commissioner Tammy Lynn Sytch and upper management had a special guest who demanded his voice be heard regarding the #1 contendership situation: Steve Corino. No one is quite sure what was said, or what came out of the meeting, but if rumors are to be believed, the decision will shock fans and wrestlers alike!
There's only one way to find out for sure what the decision is, and that's to watch Throwdown, this Saturday, May 31st!
Jed Shaffer ~I'm not sure if I'll actually ever buy the 'E. Unless the price is right, I'd rather just cherry pick off their roster and hope they survive. Now, TNA? I WILL own them.
