Anyone else as hyped as I am about this game? I've invested something like 100 hours into Fallout 3, and have yet to get bored with it. There's just something about exploring a dystopia that used to be Washington D.C., and finding hundreds of little things that I had never noticed before peeking out at me.
Hopefully Obsidian gets this one right, though I'm sure they will since they have a huge contingent of the old staff that worked on the original Fallout and Fallout 2.
Brian J. Blottie -New Vegas is the only game I care about this holiday season.

New Vegas isn't the only game I care about this season but it's the only one I know I'm going to buy. In spite of all their flaws, I enjoyed both KOTOR 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2 and will go as far to say both are better than their Bioware prequels (I certainly go back to play them more often). If Obsidian 1-up'd Bioware in my book, they'll have no problem making a better game than Bethesda.

Never played Fallout. Only console games I play nowadays are sports games, and I havent played anything on my PC since I quit playing Counter Strike and World of Warcraft several years back.
Actually, thats a lie, I did play Dragon Age and enjoyed it. But thats the exception.

The reason I haven't posted here much is due to the pools of my own drool over this game I have to wade through.

Been playing New Vegas since it launched in between college work. It's quite good and helps that I haven't ran into any of the bugs (that one is spoiler free since it takes place in the intro of all places!). Unless hardcore mode is enabled, gameplay is mostly identical to Fallout 3. The control scheme is exactly the same but there's a few changes to leveling up (perks every 2 levels instead of every level, some perks nerfed compared to how they were in Fallout 3, skills actually worth a damn). Hardcore mode adds a few new elements (required to eat/sleep, healing is a lot harder when stimpacks heal over time instead of instantly and only doctor's bags can heal limbs, companions can die) and certainly adds some replay value. Haven't finished the game on hardcore mode but so far, it's a lot more intimidating than difficult. Brief spoiler-free overview of the plot: you, a courier, have your delivery stolen, get shot in the head by Matthew Perry...who then leaves you for dead before you are dug out of a grave by a robot who thinks and talks like a cowboy. The main questline has you chasing down Perry (the sheer variety of ways to deal with him are great), finding out what was so special about your delivery and eventually influencing which of the dominant factions (NCR, Legion, Mr. House or yourself) will rule over New Vegas. I love New Vegas and prefer it to Fallout 3 in every regard...but critically, all the reported glitches and the lack of real gameplay changes make New Vegas feel like an expansion pack instead of a standalone game. Probably not worth $60 but $30-40 (maybe $50?) would be a sweet deal. Never played Fallout. Only console games I play nowadays are sports games, and I havent played anything on my PC since I quit playing Counter Strike and World of Warcraft several years back. Actually, thats a lie, I did play Dragon Age and enjoyed it. But thats the exception. Franchise mode in sports games are the only appeal for me anymore. Used to buy Madden/NCAA Football every year but Madden's really taken a dive since 06 came out. Dragon Age is awesome, though, one of the best games of last year.

Agreed on Madden, I bought every one from 02-08, but stopped after that. I really dislike the feel of the newer ones. NCAA though, I still buy every year and play a lot.
