Chris Sabin becomes first ever GFW TV champion after winning a tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
In a bit of comical news, Jeff Jarrett’s new promotion GFW announced that Chris Sabin is the company’s inaugural TV champion. On the company’s website, an article was posted saying that Sabin won a two-day, 16 man tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the title. The article also announced some interesting rules regarding the TV title. - Every TV title match as a 15 minute time limit - The title must be defended at least once every 21 days. Failure to compete in a title match within 21 days will result in forfeiture of the title. - If a champion manages to have 10 successful title defenses, they can vacate the title in order to receive an automatic shot at the Global Championship, the company’s top title. The company ended the article by saying that Sabin will have his first title defense on the first episode of GFW TV against an opponent that has yet to be determined.

GFW announced on their website that an 8-man tournament will decide the company’s first ever Global Champion which is what the promotion is calling their top championship. The tournament will conclude at the end of January at a big live event that will be sold as a DVD and available for purchase on the website's video-on-demand service Here are the participants: "The Man That Will Not Die" Matt HardyA true pioneer of tag team wrestling, Matt Hardy is going for singles gold in GFW as he looks to remind the world that just how good he is, with or without his long-time partner and brother. Having stepped into the ring for the first time at age 18, Hardy is a 20+ year veteran of the sport and has won titles all over the world. Managed by his wife, Reby Sky, Hardy looks to add another belt to his already impressive collection by becoming the first Global champion. Although some speculate that Hardy is winding down and nearing the end of his career, he is called The Man That Will Not Die for a reason and has shown that he still has plenty left in his tank. The question is, does he have enough to overcome the elite in GFW and win this tournament? "The Sinister Scot" Drew Galloway“The Sinister Scot” entered the world of professional wrestling at the tender age of 15 on the British wrestling circuit. Being exposed to such a rough business at a young age hardened Galloway and left him a bitter, mean-spirited man that will do whatever it takes to advance his career. It also gave him the tools needed to be a top-tier talent in the industry as his vicious antics inside and outside the ring, no matter how unethical they may be, have brought him much success at the relatively young age of 29. Despite his success, Galloway is hungry for more and looks to capture his first world championship in the form of the Global Championship. "The Intrepid Traveler" Paul London
Trained at Texas Wrestling Academy, which was operated by Rudy Boy Gonzalez and the legendary Shawn Michaels, Paul London has been wowing crowds for 14 years. Widely renowned as one of the best high-flyers of the past decade, London is one of the more...eccentric personalities in wrestling. He calls himself an “Intrepid Traveler” and claims to have traveled through five different dimensions. While his claims of inter-dimensional travel may be disputable, what isn’t disputable is his raw ability and his heart. In an industry filled with big men, London looks to prove that it is possible for someone his size to carry the torch for a company and be it’s top champion.
"The Pope" D’Angelo DineroAn accomplished amateur boxer raised on the hard streets of Harlem, D’Angelo Dinero had been fighting his entire life when he first came into the business at 25. Now 36, Dinero has worlds of experience to call on, both inside and outside the ring. Always dressed to the nines, the charismatic Dinero calls himself a “man of the people”, referring to himself as “The Pope” in the third person and saying that he is a role model to people all over the world. Dinero’s self-proclaimed status as a role model hasn’t stopped him from bending the rules here and there all the while insisting that he always wins fairly. Easily the biggest showman in GFW, Dinero also looks to prove that he is the best wrestler in GFW by winning the Global championship. "The World Warrior" Low-Ki Don’t be fooled by Low-Ki’s stature. What he lacks in size he more than makes up for by having the hardest kicks in all of wrestling. One kick from The World Warrior has been known to knock opponents unconscious. Over the past 16 years, Low-Ki has wrestled all over the world, facing and often beating the absolute best that the sport has to offer. In addition to his tremendous striking ability, Ki is also an accomplished submission specialist with a variety of dazzling holds in his arsenal. His most feared move, however, has to be the Warrior’s Way, a devastating double foot stomp off the top rope. Low-Ki looks to validate his claims that he is the best wrestler in the world today by outlasting seven men en route to becoming the inaugural Global champion. "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels At the ripe age of 44, Christopher Daniels is, by far and away, the oldest competitor in this tournament. He’s also one of the most experienced as he’s been wrestling since 1993. Daniels is a true legend in the sport as he has achieved almost every major accomplishment that one can achieve. In fact, the only thing that has truly eluded “The Fallen Angel” throughout his career is a world championship reign. Daniels has come close to joining the elite class of world champions many times but has failed every time. An impressive technician with the ability to fly off the top rope with ease if needed, Daniels hopes to finally catch the dragon and capture the world title reign that has eluded him for so long. Chris MastersThe strongest man in the tournament, Chris Masters has to be one of the favorites to go all the way and become the first Global champion. A 12-year veteran, Masters doesn’t drink or smoke. He achieved his impressive physique not by sticking needles in his body but through countless hours working in the gym. Masters is a believer in the power of positive energy and PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) which he believes gives him an edge over his competitors. Strength isn’t the only thing at Master’s disposal as he also moves deceptively fast for a man his size and has solid technique to match his power. Masters would love to be the first Global champion and show just how powerful positive thinking can be when combined with a lot of dedication and hard work. "The Million Dollar Prodigy" Ted Dibiase Jr.With 8 years in the business, Ted Dibiase is the least experienced participant in this tournament. Dibiase compensates for the lack of experience with two things that he inherited from his father. Good wrestling genes and money. A second generation star, Dibiase lives by the same creed as his father. Everybody, no matter how proud they are, has a price. Dibiase’s money has opened many doors for him, not just in wrestling, but with women as well which his gorgeous valet Velvet Sky can attest to. Just because he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, however, doesn’t mean that Dibiase can’t hold his own in the ring. He very well may be the dark horse favorite in this tournament to win the Global title.
