For the time being, I'm just copy-pasting what I have so far over in the Wrestlecrap forums EWR threads. My diary isn't near as comprehensive as Jed's or anything, but now that we have this forum I'll probably be able to get a little more in depth. Anyhow, here's the story so far.
October 07 - Begin game with Pro Wrestling Guerilla. Unload anybody who won't sign a written contract (Bryan Danielson, Frankie Kazarian), bring in numerous talented but unproven individuals.
Oct.-Dec. 07 - Struggle with PI. Matches on shows are decent, but a lack of television time and the fact that hardly anybody is over is a difficult obstacle to overcome. Crowd response is low for nearly every match, as in 30s or 40s low. Lucky for me, pairing up Jason Cross and Jonny Storm for a feud is getting both over huge, and literally saving shows that would otherwise be horrible. I'm determined to get El Generico over, but both guys he's feuded with over the World title have been injured before the feud really gets going (Scott Lost and Chris Bosh).
December 07 - Finally secured a television deal. Got a deal with Sci-Fi for a Wednesday night graveyard spot.
Dec. 07- April 08 - Towards the end of this run I was gaining around 10% of PI and over a million dollars a month. Then I almost ran myself out of business. Here's how:
My ratings had been steadily increasing. I went from averaging 1.4 to 1.8. So, I figured that moving up to a better time slot could only benefit me. So I asked Sci-Fi to move me, and they obliged, switching me over to a late night time slot. But in this new timeslot, my great 1.8 rating didn't look so great anymore. So I figured I'll just move back down to the graveyard spot and wait until my ratings get a little stronger.
That's when it all hit the fan.
TNA has a total of 3 shows in my game, one of which happens to be on Sci-Fi. As luck would have it, their ratings were tanking pretty bad. As soon as I moved out of the graveyard spot, they snatched it right up. I didn't realize that until it was too late, and when I asked to be moved back down to graveyard, I was told that they already have a program filling that spot. So then it was just a matter of time until my show got canned.
April-Oct. 08 - For this entire time frame, 6 months in-game, I tried to get a tv show. I was scrambling like Paul Heyman trying to get something going to save my company. The first month, I figured it'd be fairly simple to get a show. So I really didn't change anything about my company. Then the financial figures came back. And I lost a million dollars. I knew something had to change. I figured desperate times called for desperate measures, so I figured I could recoup the money I had lost by replacing the monthly large show with a weekly show. My reasoning was that I'd easily be able to make up any loss I took in ticket revenue with sponsorship money. I found out the hard way that no, that isn't the case. I actually made far, far less sponsorship money this way. So in addition to doing 4 times the work, I ended up losing TWO million dollars. That signaled the end of the weekly show experiment. So I finally, and reluctantly, cut costs in other areas, namely advertising and production values. My profits for the next few months were no lower then $100,000, and no higher then $300,000. The ice I was skating on couldn't be much thinner. And of course while all of this was happening, my PI was still hurting and causing my worker's morale to drop by about 10% every month. In a month or two, I wouldn't have much of a promotion left, assuming I was still employed.
October 08 - Bravo finally gave me a TV deal. After 6 months of trying everyone from Sci-Fi to MTV, Bravo finally gave me a show. I stopped playing as soon as I found out I had the deal, but I'm pretty sure that when I pick back up I'll be able to pull PWG out of the rut it's been in and take it National.
Nov. 08 of my PWG game
-The market is at 25% and sliding, which is causing some interesting situations.
-WWE is tanking. How bad? Try 55% National, and Raw getting canceled.
-TNA is the #1 promotion by far.
Dec. 08 of my PWG game
-WWE is at cult level. Armageddon will be their first monthly show not to be a PPV. Things are looking bleak for the Crockett-owned WWE.
April 09 in my PWG game:
-TNA is the #1 promotion in the world, and the only global company. 100% Global PI. They managed to stay stable, even with the market bottoming out at 0%.
-There are absolutely no companies at National level
-Around 6 companies (Including my own) are in the 50%-80% Cult level. Now that the market is in the upswing, it should be interesting to see how everything plays out when everyone is large enough to be at war with one another.
-WWE's last surviving television show, ECW on Sci-Fi, was finally canceled. Their PI has been plummeting ever since, and it shouldn't be too long before they issue a bankrupcy warning. Oh, and since Jim Crockett took over for Linda, the risk rating has been at 10%.
-El Generico finally lost the PWG World title after a year-long reign to Kid Kash in a four-way dance. I'm toying with the idea of having a face vs. face feud between the companies biggest two stars.
-ROH is tanking, so I took the opportunity to snatch up some of their unused talent to help fill out my roster since I've got a new primetime show. I managed to get Jimmy Jacobs, Delirious, Sexxxy Eddy, and Trent Acid.
